UFC middleweight flagged by USADA

July 3, 2016 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

UFC middleweight Ricardo Abreu has been flagged by USADA of a potential UFC anti-doping policy violation as a result of an out-of-competition test sample.

The 32-year-old fighter was a cast member of TUF: Brazil 3.  Notably, Abreu, who debuted for the UFC in May 2014 and fought again in June 2015 was never tested in 2015.  He was tested just once in 2016 which one assumes was the test that USADA flagged.

He is 1-1 in the UFC.  The UFC has released its standard statement when it receives notification of a flagged drug test.

Payout Perspective:

It’s too early to say whether Abreu will contest the violation.  If not, it carries a 2-year suspension which would make him a 34-year-old fighter in a tough division.  Without a fight in over a year, one has to think that he may be facing a termination by the company lest there is a good reason for his drug test.
