TUF 23 Episode 4 draws 336,000 viewers

May 12, 2016 by Jason Cruz 13 Comments

The fourth episode of The Ultimate Fighter 23 drew a live plus same day rating of 336,000 viewers.  It’s one of the lowest viewership ratings for a TUF episode.

In the fight of the show, Andrew Sanchez defeated Myron Dennis via unanimous decision.

Episode 4

Per Sports TV Ratings, the episode drew 226,000 viewers in the adult 18-49 demo.  The 336,000 viewers is an all-time low for the series on FS1.   Prior to this Episode 5 of TUF 21 drew just 340,000 viewers.

In comparison to this episode, last spring TUF 21 Episode 3 drew 364,000 viewers.

Payout Perspective:

An NHL Game 7 and two NBA Playoff games on TNT probably spelled the doom for any live viewers of TUF.  The Golden State-Warriors-Portland Trailblazers Game 5 drew over 6 million viewers according to Sports TV Ratings.  As we know, we should see an uptick in viewership due to the DVR ratings.

A pre-recorded show of beginners loses out to live, playoff competition? Imagine that.
Will be interesting to see what the DVR numbers will be.

How were the ratings for this week’s The Contender? Oh, wait.

Meanwhile, another TUF season was announced. 🙂

And by plunge, you must be talking PBC’s ratings and standing.

which means its probably in the mid 500K range with DVR which isn’t good but isn’t exactly bad either. Cruz, any way we can get the updated DVR numbers for all combat sports and not just TUF?

Canelo-Khan did 600k PPVs which now officially makes Canelo boxing’s biggest star. He’s doing better than Pacquiao but obviously the days of 1M+ are gone for all except the top fights. Maybe Canelo-GGG?

Iole and a number of different reporters are dismissing that 600k number. Iole reported 460k, others have it in the 300ks. I think accepting 600k is a stretch at this point seeing how HBO refuses to even address it and the number is coming from the promotion.

WIth that being said, Canelo is still the no.1 draw in boxing, and I don’t see any boxing ppv coming anywhere near 1m buys other than Canelo-GGG and even that I doubt considering Cotto has a bigger base and still only did 900k with Canelo.

    Good article by Iole.

“Alvarez and Khan combined to sell about 460,000 on pay-per-view, including 145,000 on DirecTV, about 230,000 on cable and about 60,000 on Dish Network. The rest of the sales came via companies like Verizon Fios.”

This is coming from Iole, who nearly always gives the promoters the benefit of the doubt and typically inflates numbers.

“The only bout in that time frame that came close to matching expectations was the November fight in which Alvarez decisioned Miguel Cotto to win the WBC middleweight belt in Las Vegas. HBO Pay-Per-View reported that show did 900,000 buys. Several industry insiders have said that number is grossly exaggerated, but Yahoo Sports has no specifics to counter the HBO Sports number.”

This is a good example of why we can’t accept boxing ppv numbers. There is no one with any reputation doing any oversight on their buy rate releases. When Iole says this, it is likely true. How many times in the past has he gone along with the promotion? Nearly every time. Maybe he is wising up.

” For some reason this year, HBO’s budget is significantly less than it has been and it declined to buy a highly competitive fight between two unbeaten (though largely unknown) champions.”

“Alvarez speaks almost no English and Golovkin’s English is not particularly good. It will be a difficult sell, despite the quality of the fight. So much will go into determining how big a fight becomes, but it’s hard to see that bout doing 1 million on pay-per-view in the current climate.”

    Lole is generally always wrong.

The people who think Canelo-Cotto was exaggerated are people who don’t like GBP.

D likes whoever is clamoring the lowest numbers.

At least boxing is putting out numbers and not waiting 3 months like the UFC to count 300k ppvs.

In favor of the promoter. His numbers are always higher than the real number.

“The people who think Canelo-Cotto was exaggerated are people who don’t like GBP.”

Or in reality people who are observing another boxing promoter lying with no oversight.

“D likes whoever is clamoring the lowest numbers.”

The most hypocritical and delusional claim I’ve ever seen.

“At least boxing is putting out numbers and not waiting 3 months like the UFC to count 300k ppvs.”

HBO won’t even report their numbers anymore and the UFC doesn’t release ppv numbers. Meltzer does and he never takes 3 months.

“Two sources with knowledge of test have told ESPN that Povetkin tested positive for meldonium with title fight vs Wilder a week away.”

Status of the Wilder-Povetkin fight is unclear at the moment after Povetkin’s positive test.”

They are cancelling this one. Hahahaha.

When was the last ppv in the UFC that wasn’t changed last minute?

When will be the next time a boxing ppv hits 500k buys? Hahahaha. Hasn’t happened in over a year.
