Premier Boxing Champions on Fox drew 1.51 million viewers Saturday night according to TV By the Numbers. It was fourth in its time slot in terms of overall viewers.
The event featured the rematch between Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz. Berto stopped Ortiz in the fourth round despite going down to Ortiz earlier in the fight.
The main event was indicative of the night as all the fights ended in KOs.
Per TV By Numbers, the two hour PBC on Fox drew a 0.5 rating in the adult 18-49 demo and a 2 share. In comparison, the NHL Playoffs on NBC (airing from 8-11pm) drew a 0.9 rating and a 3 share. It drew 2.47 million viewers. Notably, a rerun of NCIS on CBS won the 8pm time slot with 4.57 million viewers.
The ratings are down from PBC on Fox this past January which drew 2.24 million viewers a 0.7 rating and 3 share.
Payout Perspective:
The viewership was slightly better than a PBC on NBC a couple weeks ago which drew just 1.24 million viewers. The NHL Playoffs probably put a dent into the ratings. Also, there was a PBC Showtime card later that night (as well as one on Spike the night before) which may or may not have caused some viewer confusion. If you watched, you could infer from some of the commentary that these were “fan friendly” fights with mainly young fighters preceding the main event trying to knock each other out. Nothing is wrong with this, in fact, it’s clear that PBC wants the product to be exciting filled with knockdowns. Will the strategy work in the end? We will see. t

Not a big match.
What did you expect Ortiz-Berto II to do?
Mayweather is the biggest draw in combat sports history possibly, and he only did 550k ppvs against Berto.
No one was clamoring for Oritz Berto II. It was an intriguing fight to boxing fans who knew the past of both these guys, since they both fell drastically after their first fight which was a FOTY nominee, like 5-6 years ago.
No one expected this to do great ratings, but PBC is putting on great fights.
By the way, PBC isnt out of money. They got way more than $400M. They got $925M

I think that’s it for Victor. I like his aggressive style but he’s had his jaw broken several times and I just don’t think he can take the damage anymore. Berto is still Berto. Hard hitting and easy to hit.

The Greatest – thanks for the link. Is there any evidence of a relationship between Haymon and Caldwell or any “quid pro quo” relationship? Honestly, I never understood why a fund would invest in something so risky. A relationship between the two men would make sense.
d says
“What did you expect Ortiz-Berto II to do?
Mayweather is the biggest draw in combat sports history possibly, and he only did 550k ppvs against Berto.”
Well, you certainly expected it to do better numbers than the UFC on FOX, and PBC basically did half of the viewers the average UFC on FOX show did. Also, do I need to bring up comments you made from a year ago about how well PBC would do?
d says
“By the way, PBC isnt out of money. They got way more than $400M. They got $925M”
Where to even begin with this. Okay, so first off, PBC does not presently have 925m. They burned through hundreds of millions already with nothing to show for. Also, that 925m is an ambiguous number with nothing verifying it. It even mentions in the article that the W & R rep is discussing all of the factual errors in these lawsuits. Plus there was a mention of disclosure issues earlier in the article as well. So who knows if that is an accurate figure.
Regardless, I don’t know why you posted this in defense of PBC. This is a damning article. It points out the disastrous situation they are with lawsuits flying, at both them and the fund, the fact that they possibly engaged in something criminal, where the fund manager invested in this as part of his connection to Hayman and that the investment was a clear failure that was losing a crazy amount of money.
Let’s say that figure is accurate. That would mean they basically have half of the money left. It took them basically a year to lose 400-500m, so based on this, they are on track to be completely out of money in 1 year.
This was a miserable failure from the start and all of the boxing fanboys on here were raving about it and were convinced this would be bigger than the UFC on network tv. They haven’t done anywhere near what the UFC has done overall ratings wise on the networks. Kathy Duva was correct in her analysis about how this was unsustainable.
I can see this money being pulled from PBC by the end of the year.
Boxing can’t survive on the networks.

Some great quotes from the boxing fanboys:
“Boxing takeover.
Al Haymon has his boxing shows on NBC NBC Sports, CBS, CBS Sports, Showtime, Spike TV, ESPN 2, Telemundo, and BET.
ESPN is making a deal to replace Friday Night Fights with his program.
So go ahead and tell us D how the Haymon assault is bad for boxing.
This man is literally going to skyrocket the sport back to where it use to be as an American institution.”
-The Weakest…Feb. 2015

You gotta assume boxing on NBC is going to beat that.”
-The Weakest……Jan. 2015
“This number is AWESOME given the fact no one has Showtime and these two fighters were mediocre. Could you imagine what the NBC numbers will produce? 5 million a telecast. Spike will do 2-3 million each telecast.”
-FIght Business ……..Jan. 2015
“2.7m? Thats it?
All that promotion didnt really bring in the big ratings.
When Mike Tyson fought Buster Mathis Jr on FOX in 1995, he drew 43m viewers.”
The Weakest in response to UFN 59 on FS1. …….Jan. 2015
“Boxing on Showtime getting 1.34mil homes out of 22million is better than 2.7mil homes out of over 100mil.
I think boxing on NBC can get over 3mil.
It actually did a couple years ago, Adamek vs Cunningham got around 4mil and the rematch did 3.2mil.
I think Thurman, Guerrero and Broner can do better than that.
NBC is gonna have some great cards later in the year.
D I cant wait to hear your excuses.”
The Weakest…Jan. 2015 (excuses clearly made in response to this over a year later by the Weakest). Haha.
“Boxing is going to be on NBC, which is hands down a bigger and more respected channel than FOX.
You got to spend money to make money and boxing is going to kill on there especially if they put some notable names like Adrien Broner and Danny Garcia.
Also D tried to compare the UFC against Al Haymon.
Al Haymon is just one man while the UFC is an actual business.
Also factor in that the FOX is really regretting their deal with the UFC and I see no way that they re up on that.
They barely bring in 2m viewers.”
“Yea I think this deal is bigger and better than the UFCs.”
“Boxing gets over 1mil views on Showtime and HBO and NBC carries up to 4 more times the viewers and there is alot of people who would watch boxing if they put it on prime tv.
If UFC was on Showtime they would average 330k viewers tops. No ones subscribing for the UFC. For ….. sakes they barely pull 2m viewers on FOX”
“So yes this is a great “risk” if you want to call it that even though they will out view the UFC with ease.
What did the last UFC on FOX get, 2.27mil?”
“Here is a good bet. Which happens first?
The UFC gets through their 7 year deal or the UFC is disbanded and sold to the WWE before the deal is finished?”
The Weakest …Jan. 2015 (If we were in the bizarro world, you would be on fire with predictions. Hahaha)

“The return of boxing to ABC with the two best LHWs in the world to unify all 4 major belts.
8m+ viewers”
“UFCs deal is up in a few years. Watch PBC take its place.”
“Who wants to bet that PBC replaces UFC on Fox.”
“Broner vs Khan would easily be over 5m. Id put it at around 8m if they fought.
Broner vs John Molina wasn’t expected to do anything.”
“So 3.4m with it peaking at 4.2m is good for who fought.
I feel they will also go up with the next shows.
People liked what they saw.”
The Weakest …March 2015
Chris says
Think we all saw this coming, PBC is dead in the water.
Cutch says
They tried to grow to big to fast, if HBO is off the table I would have went Showtime with occasional CBS fights, monthly Spike cards and monthly ESPN cards, with a deal they ESPN gets behind any potential PPV
Create stars on CBS/Showtime that will lead to a future PPV fight perhaps Garcia-Thurman
Put strong cards on ESPN and bouts featuring names like Broner against beatable opponents on Spike.
Spike apparently pays, so does Showtime, CBS owns Showtime, so it would be in their interest to promote future Showtime/Showtime PPV stars.
ESPN brings publicity, if not cash, you have to have PPV stars all over ESPN to gather buzz for any potential PPV you have planned.

D did you even research the quotes you posted?
D puts up a quote where i say that boxing on NBC can get more than 2.7M viewers. And they did multiple times
You posted a quote of me saying Garcia, Thurman, and Guerrero show will do over 3M viewers. It did over 3M you i.diot.
Go find the quote where i told you that starting from March 2015, UFC will never top Thurman-Guerreros viewership. And they still haven’t
So since PBC came into the picture, they have the highest viewership for a single show and also have more total viewers than the UFC. Fighters also make more money on PBC than they do in the ufc. Am i wrong?
PBC is falling apart due to shady business tactics and other things.
You seem to think its because people don’t like boxing when obviously that’s not true.
You cant do 4.6M ppvs for a sport no one cares about.
d says

You are making up quotes of mine. How pathetic. The quotes I posted of yours are actually real. More lies from the weakest.
I love watching you squirm and attempt to spin your statements when they are right there- a smoking gun. All of those comments were absurd and dead wrong. You went on and on about how when boxing hit the networks they would blow away the UFC, and in reality, we are seeing them tank and now crumble. They are not failing just because of the shady business tactics, they are failing primarily because their ratings STINK and in addition they are overpaying their fighters. You know how you love to brag about how much these guys get paid? Well this is the result of those overpaid purses, genius.
Do I really need to post your UFC ppv predictions? They are even worse than your delusional tv predictions I posted above.
They are ALWAYS DEAD WRONG!!! Literally every single UFC ppv prediction you made was not even close to being accurate and then when the numbers come out BY A VERIFIED SOURCE, you deny it and keep ranting.
I can’t wait until the end of the year when boxing’s ppv hits an all time low and the UFC’s shatters more records. Its very amusing watching you defend a dying argument.

They actually didn’t d.ummy. You are cherry picking stats, not to mention you lied again, McGregor was on FS1 where the UFC trounces any boxing card, and you attempted to claim it was on FOX. If McGregor was on FOX it literally would have done 8-10m avg viewers. Also, the NBC shows average far less than 2.7m. They are barely over 2m per show. So no it didn’t beat that.
“Once again I was right”
No you weren’t. You left out the other predictions you threw out there that contradicted everything you said. You were making ridiculous predictions about Broner hitting 8m viewers, ya quack.

“All I have to do is say Mayweather-Pacquiao did 4.6M ppvs. D do you agree?”
All I have to do is say every macro prediction I made about boxing over the last year was dead on. The UFC ppv rebounded and exploded last year and this year overtook boxing now, not only with overall ppv buys annually(which they had been doing for years), to doing the top ppvs annually. They will have the top 3 ppv buy rates this year. Boxing would be lucky to break 1m buys 1x. Boxing ppv is now in the gutter because Mayweather & Pac retired with only one guy who can even do a decent ppv in Canelo. My predictions on PBC were also 100% right. You were saying over and over again about how they were going to reign supreme and they failed miserably, burning through hundreds of millions, with poor ratings and nothing to show for. Meanwhile the UFC (which you said was going to be replaced by PBC on FOX) is still staying steady with their ratings.
Do you agree? Probably not, you are in denial.
So in conclusion, you were wrong about both the UFC & boxing’s ppv standing, and PBC and UFC on tv. That’s nothing new though, you are wrong about everything and you just deny what you say even after quotes are posted.

PBC is bad for boxing. When PBC finally goes under there will ultimately be less boxing on television than pre-PBC, decreased viewership, and lower paydays. All so Haymon and buddies could scam money out of investors. Boxing fans should wish for the end of PBC to come as soon as possible.
A Gina Carano headlined fight would have killed this in ratings by the way…
The Greatest says
PBC is good and bad for boxing.
What D wants to believe is that PBC is bad because boxing is bad.
When in reality, there is probably some issues going on behind the scenes affecting PBC.
PBC being on so many channels obviously plays a big part in keeping track with everything.
The fight on Spike, I didnt even realize was on until I saw the ratings on here.
PBC is all over the place, which is fun for a fan but not necessarily good for business.
Also these inflated purses and matchmaking has also hurt this. Haymon having his top stars fighting weak comp isnt good at all. But at the same time PBC has had some great fights.
There was a great deal of boxing fans who wanted and want PBC to fail due to Haymon and the Mayweather connection.
Boxing isn’t going anywhere. If PBC fails, something will replace it.
d says

PBC has been a nightmare for boxing. What the Weakest wants people to believe is that this utter failure has some sort of bright light behind it, when everyone knows this has just been another black eye on boxing.
Yeah, there are some issues going on behind the scenes affecting PBC, they are called awful ratings and lack of interest. Hahaha.
“The fight on Spike, I didnt even realize was on until I saw the ratings on here.
PBC is all over the place, which is fun for a fan but not necessarily good for business.”
More excuses. They promoted to death the NBC shows, and they still failed miserably. Also, how many people know when all of these no named headlining Bellator fights on Spike were on? Yet they managed to easily beat almost every PBC on Spike.
“Also these inflated purses and matchmaking has also hurt this. ”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
How long have you been bragging about the payouts for???? Thanks for proving my point.
“Boxing isn’t going anywhere. If PBC fails, something will replace it.”
Not on network tv, boxing is not sustainable there. In order to even get decent ratings they have to pay over-inflated purses. They can’t cover their overhead costs and it turns into a financial loss. The only reason this was even funded to begin with was because some soon to be imprisoned fund manager decided along with Haymon to steal hundreds of millions from investors for a pet project and skim money from the top.
Wil says
I dont like to see anything less than 2m viewers on a prime time free tv show but this is what PBC will get if and when they keep putting non champions and lets face it, non stars on their cards. The NBC, CBS, FOX prime time shows should be reserved for fighters who have pulled numbers in the past or who have pulled a following on premium cable. As I understand it though, these are average numbers, not top numbers, and they wer preliminary numbers from the day after. I would guess that the number for average viewers is another 200-300K, with it topping off at near or over 2m.
d says
The bigger issue though is that it drew a .5 rating in the 18-49.
Now with this new lawsuit hanging and their funds basically depleted, I don’t see how this goes on much longer. This was a failed idea from the beginning and it is looking more and more likely that someone could be going to jail for this crooked venture.
