Brandao flagged by USADA for marijuana use

January 15, 2016 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Former TUF winner Diego Brandao has tested positive for marijuana metabolites per the UFC.  The results were from a post-fight drug test at UFC 195 where he lost to Brian Ortega via submission.

Via UFC.com:

The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) informed Diego Brandao of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation involving Carboxy-Tetrahydrocannabinol (“Carboxy-THC”) which is a metabolite of marijuana and/or hashish, above the decision limit of 180 ng/mL, stemming from an in-competition sample collected following his fight on January 2, 2016 in Las Vegas.

Brandao (6-4 in the UFC) becomes the fourth UFC contracted fighter to be flagged by USADA since the UFC anti-doping program began.

Payout Perspective:

At age 28, one would suppose that he tries to appeal the suspension. The news of the potential infraction should serve as a deterrent for those that may be using marijuana for recreational or therapeutic purposes.  MMA Payout will keep you posted.
