PBC on ESPN Wednesday draws 428K viewers

October 15, 2015 by Jason Cruz 5 Comments

Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN Wednesday night draw a rating of 428,000 viewers in the 9-11pm ET time slot per Sports TV Ratings.  Notably, the event went up against MLB Playoffs on FS1 which drew the highest sports TV cable rating of the evening.

The game 5 deciding game in the series between the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals drew an average audience of 5.94M viewers between 8-10:53pm.  Prior to that on FS1, the series clinching win by the Toronto Blue Jays drew 3.19M viewers from 4-7:54pm ET

The PBC event featured Devon Alexander as he took on Aron Martinez in the main event.  Martinez scored the upset victory by unanimous decision over Alexander.

PBC on ESPN

July 11, 2015 – (Thurman-Collazo) 800,000

August 1, 2015 – (Garcia-Malignaggi) 1.073M

August 31, 2015 (Mares-Santa Cruz) – 1.217M viewers

October 14, 2015 (Alexander-Martinez) – 428,000 viewers

Notably, per Sports TV Ratings, PBC on FS1 on Tuesday night drew 192,000 viewers which is around the average the show has received since starting on the network.

Payout Perspective:

Obviously the 428,000 is much lower than the last three events.  But, you can attribute this to the Wednesday night placing as well as the fact that two series deciding MLB games on FS1 occupied many sports fans Wednesday night.

I attribute it to being a terrible fight between two guys who were coming of losses, fans were audibly booing. Wish ESPN would attempt to draw in casuals by accepting better fights

What about the ratings for the PBC event on FS1 on Tuesday, Amir Mansour vs Gerald Washington?

I can confirm that ticket sales were very poor for this event as well with many given out for free. I’m fed up with the poor matchmaking on PBC and production. Hopefully these ratings will force them to make some changes.

It wasnt bad match making. Aron Martinez shouldve gotten the win against Guerrero and he was a 50-1 underdog against Devon. That’s two upsets.
Haymon has almost 200 fighters, so your gonna see some less interesting fights.
Devon Alexander is done tho. Started 21-0 and has gone 5-4 since then.
But its smart to put tho low key matches on while your competing against the MLB playoffs.

PBC on NBC at 1pm Pacific time.

Fight Fan, I think combat sports will always struggle to draw big gates on weekdays, they aren’t as big as team sports or have a strong affinity to said team and people are less likely to travel long distances.

WWE does decent but their tickets are cheap and you usually see most of the big stars.

You can still do big ratings with the right fight, just look at Tito – Shamrock 3 and Kimbos TUF fights they all drew over 4 million and they were on Wednesday nights
