PBC on NBC Saturday draws 0.95 rating

June 8, 2015 by Jason Cruz 26 Comments

Premier Boxing Championships on Saturday afternoon drew a rating of 0.95 which is an increase of 12% from its May event on NBC according to NBC Sports.

In the main event on Saturday, Robert Guerrero won a split decision over Aron Martinez in the sole fight of the one and half hours.

March – 1.08 rating, 3.4million viewers

April – 0.80 rating, 2.9 million viewers

May – 0.85 rating, ? million viewers

June – 0.95 rating, ?

Payout Perspective:

There are no viewership numbers released so we are guestimating the number of viewers to be hovering around the 3 million range based on past viewership numbers.  PBC on NBC this Saturday was part of a big day on the network which started with the Women’s French Open Tennis Final, then PBC, then the Belmont Stakes and ending with the NHL Stanley Cup. Of the events, PBC scored the least amount of viewers although that should be expected.  The question is will PBC be able to return to ratings like in March.

Something is off about the numbers. I know this was CBS but according to reports Stevenson vs Bika drew a 1.1 rating and only drew 1.6m viewers. Something doesn’t add up.

“Late Saturday afternoon PBC Boxing on NBC drew a 0.85 overnight rating. That’s on par with the 0.9 overnight rating PBC Boxing drew on CBS at 4pm on May 9 (which was down from a 1.1 on April 4).”

This report was released after the Direll-DeGale fight. If we are to assume that these two past PBC on NBC fights were 3m viewers, why would they be on par with a 1.1 rating with 1.6m viewers?

Either way, this was just another massive financial loss for PBC….burning through hundreds of millions.

Great sign for boxing! They will have 3X as many shows this year breaking 1 million + viewers as they did last year.

WOW! Extremely good numbers for a day time show and this was done with an absolutely crappy card. I really think Boxing should start between 3-6 pm east coast time like most major sports. I’m tired of yawning during fights. i always said figght before 6pm can get good numbers. these numbers are also preliminary. Huge bump up. the previous CBS day time card did good with 1.4 million people. numbers just doubled. awesome.

Amazing stats for MayPac pointing to likely 4.8M buys when all totals are compiled.

Fagbusiness…how could they have doubled with less of a rating? The numbers are off and they still lost millions on this fight card anyway.

How many millions can you afford to lose? Eventually they will go bust. Just a matter of time and how much the hedge fund is willing to lose. Could be all of it if they are really stupid.

There were probably only around a little more than 1m viewers for this fight. I think the issue is the ratings were for the afternoon. Afternoon ratings draw lower viewers compared to prime time.

“There’s a chance that the May 9th edition of Premier Boxing Champions on CBS can improve its ratings, but early returns have the Saturday afternoon televised double header pulling in a 0.9 overnight rating and roughly 1.4 million viewers, according to first-round numbers from Nielsen Media Research.”

You can change that question mark at the top for the May 9th numbers and this also proves that the fight from Saturday did no where near 3m viewers.

*The May 9th PBC on CBS was 1.4m with a .9 rating and was headlined by Figueroa vs Burns. The May show on NBC was Direll vs DeGale and drew a .85 rating*

Still shows the ratings estimates to be off though.

Its about what you’d expect these afternoon cards to do, around 1.5 million viewers, maybe less, maybe more depending on show.

I think the total viewers change compared to the share rating because of the number of households that were watching tv that night. Sometimes a 1.9 share will be more viewers then another day. I think that’s why the viewers can flux so much.

Funny how delusional boxing fans are. They only take ppv buy rates when corrupt boxing productions report them who have a long history of lying.

Also are you saying I was wrong about PBC’s numbers for this event? Nielsen didn’t report the viewership, just the rating. Mmapayout’s estimation of 3m viewers is wrong because they drew that conclusion comparing it to prime time ratings, where this was an afternoon show and comparable ratings were in the 1-1.6m viewership range. That is what this fight drew.

To look further into how this card went financially, purses were probably around 3m, this event probably cost them around 6m with around 1.5m viewers on network tv, that is once again a giant turd. Lost millions. I know this is a long term play, but when are they going to have to start to get the ratings required for a legit deal that can cover their overhead? Big fights in prime time for PBC get in the 2-3m range which is awful considering the costs. To sustain this model, eventually they are going to have to be drawing 5-6m viewers on average in prime time which they are no where near.

How long can PBC series go on while losing money?

NBC’s “Fight Night” series failed after three years. Sponsors were not interested. More money has been invested in PBC though.

Lol maybe Reviera shouldn’t have started a family until he was financially secure? Maybe he should find a job to support his family instead of chasing his own selfish dream or hobby? It isn’t the UFCs job to raise people’s kids for them. Reveria has lost a lot of fights recently. No one knows his name and he made a fool of himself begging for money after his fight. He might have got a bonus of he didn’t come off like a idiotic bum. The UFC can’t make stars out of people who create a poor image of themselves.

I’m tired of piss poor human beings conplaining. Either provide for your family or chase a dream. Don’t try to do both and make others suffer through your bad decisions then try to make others bail you out. That is like someone in football coming out of college and keeps trying to make the NFL as a walk on for 10 years. If you are single that’s fine. But don’t drag a family through your selfish stupidity.

Also Reveria is not at a leve where he should be above having a second job. He has few fights, no name value, and little skills. He trains a couple hours a day. If his family meant anything to him he would get a second job and support his family. There is 100,000 single 22 year olds who would love to have his position in the UFC and think they hit the lottery with a 8,000 and 8,000 contract.
