UFC 187 attendance, gate and bonuses

May 24, 2015 by Jason Cruz 28 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the attendance, gate and bonuses from Saturday’s UFC 187.  The numbers were announced at the post-fight press conference.

Andre Arlovski, Travis Browne, Chris Weidman and Daniel Cormier earned the $50,000 bonuses.  Arlovski and Browne earned the Fight of the Night for their one round slugfest with Arlovski earning the KO.  Weidman and Cormier earned Performance bonuses of the night after their respective stoppages.

The attendance for UFC 187 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena was 12,615 for a gate of $5,189,167.

Payout Perspective:

The announced gate is very good considering that there were still tickets available at Ticketmaster the day before the event and the secondary market was softening in terms of the “get-in” price.   The attendance and gate numbers exceeded February’s UFC 183 (13,114 attendance/$4.5 million gate) which featured Anderson Silva taking on Nate Diaz Super Bowl weekend.  In fact, it did much better than the heavily promoted UFC 182 (Jones-Cormier).   That event drew 11,575 for a $3.7 million gate.

tickets were sold thinking weidman and jones would be on the same card. notice how the UFC will put two huge stars on the same card to get bigger numbers? could you imagine if Canelo and pacquiou were on the same card? i actually saw last nights fight. it was very good. cormier and weidman fought like studs. weidman is an AMAZING fighter. dude cant crack 600k on his own though which shows you can be amazing and no one cares in mma. the product however was very good yesterday. weidmans a boss. belforet and johnson fought with heart

Hahaha. Fagbusiness, what a moron. He knows nothing about this business.

This sold because it was a big fight card as he acknowledged with 2 title fights on.

UFC events don’t pick up sales wise until usually 2-3 weeks ahead of time, Jones was removed about a month prior. If this was reflective of scalpers buying up most of the tickets, there wouldn’t be $140 tickets left on ticketmaster just prior to the event. Lower Level tickets are the last to be scalped. This was a big fight, big gate and big success.

Also, for your idiotic comparison- first off, if Canelo and Pacquaio were on the same card fighting different fighters, the numbers would be worse than if they were just fighting each other. Boxing is completely about matchups between their limited star base. If Pacquaio only did 350k buys against Algieri, he only did 475k(many even question this number) against Rios. Those guys need a big name to match up with to sell a big fight. If they fought each other, they would probably do over a million, but if they fought averaged named opponents on the same card, they’d probably do no more than 700k. This also ignores the fact that the UFC can do those shows because they have more stars than boxing, significantly more. You just mentioned 2 of the 3 boxers who have ever sold a ppv and one is going to be retired next year.

You equate 545k buys(which Weidman did against Machida by himself basically), with no one caring? If that is the case, you just admitted no one cares about boxing outside of Mayweather. Cause Pacqauio can’t even do those numbers by himself these days.

d- cotto just signed a 3 fight 50 million dollar deal. so can you stop with your “no one gets paid outside of mayweather & pac nonsense. not even mma fans are arguing that” anymore by the way no one gets paid well in mma period! Their big stars (jones, silva, gsp) get paid 3 million dollars per fight. sad and embarrassing. the klitschkos are both worth over 40 million. bradley, khan, canelo, froach routinely gt over 2 million per fight. please stop it with this argument. it makes you sound dum. again no one is arguing what sport pays more except you. even mma fans have stoped. may 2nd umbers made such a mockery of ma that haters shut up and forever will. you sound delusional. i’m trying to help your credibility. by the way last time i checked mayweather& pac are boxers so why do you dismiss what they make? if the UFC is more popular who are there 5 fighters making 150 illion a fight. pac & may make such a mockery of the dry humping league that you MUST hate on them because they show the world how popular boxing is if a good fight is made.

the ufc has a far more pressing problem. they have the talent and no one cares. boxing may not have the talent but when they do everyone cares as you saw on may 2nd. I’d rather have people say “if you have the talent i will watch your sport” as opposed to “you can have the talent and i still wont watch” pac vs bradley 2 did 750k ppv buys. no one new algeri. i literally though that fight was a joke when they signed it. pac vs rios did 450k (still bad) because pac was coming of a knockout and rios is a notch above a club fighter. anthony johnson and votor belfort are both good. if canelo fought kirkland in a ppv and in the undercard, thurman fought amir khan that would do over 600k ppv buys. in england or mexico it would probably sell over 50k tickets also. int the us it would do about a 5 million dollar gate as well.

stop using words like idiot. that makes you the troll. your just jealous that Boxing hasnt yet been swallowed and mma is actually the one being swallowed. BAHAHAHA. FYI, they are promoting the living shit out of aldo and mcgregor. that fight will be the true test of the ufc’s ceiling. if boxing promotes heavy it will do 1.5 million ppv’s easy. the best i see that fight doing is 1 million ppv buys. by the way ma and pac are small dudes and look what they do.

Fagbusiness, I know you are really dumb, but I thought even you would realize sometimes when people sign contracts they aren’t all related to the sport involved. That contract for Cotto through Jay Z’s company also involves very big promotional pay that has nothing to do with his boxing career. So part of that money listed is not going to him for his fights.

The UFC’s big stars probably do make around 3m per fight. How many boxers make 3m per fight? It isn’t a long list:

    -Mayweather(will retire this Fall)
-Pacquiao (has already stated he will retire in 2016)
    -Canelo
    -Klitschko
    -Cotto

“bradley, khan, canelo, froach routinely gt over 2 million per fight. please stop it with this argument. it makes you sound dum.”

I’d say someone who argues that the UFC stars are underpaid by receiving only 3m per year, then follows claiming boxing stars are making 2m plus per fight, and then misspells dumb, is the dumb one.

When have I argued that the top boxers make less than the top UFC fighters? My point is that the boxers involved at the top nearly all co promote their own fights. They are promoters. UFC fighters aren’t. So why don’t we take what the UFC’s cut is for their fights and add them to the fighter payroll and see what is generating more money.

Another thing you are attempting to do is claim that boxing is more popular because the fighters get paid more. You are saying this because you are retarded. The pay to the fighters is not necessarily reflective of the fight’s popularity. How much the event is netting is the relevant figure. Every single PBC show so far has lost money and has bombed. The headliners were paid very well though. It is a horrible business plan that is doomed because their labor costs alone exceed their gross.

It’s funny that you say I am hating on the stand up dry humpers and neck caressers. I’m not on a boxing site, I’m on a MMA one. You are the troll, you flaming homosexual.

If Canelo fought Kirkland with a solid undercard, he wouldn’t do shit. At best he would hit 400k and I doubt he would even get that. No one gives a shit about Kirkland. Canelo has never done a 5m gate with anyone other than the Mayweather fight for obvious reasons.

Pac-Bradley II was a rematch from a Pacquaio loss. It was a heavily anticipated rematch. That’s why it did that well. Pac by himself now can’t draw shit.

The rest of your ranting is incoherent and very gay in nature. You should just admit you are a fag for boxers and get off this site you troll.

the ufc has to be concerned because at the moment the only guaranteed draw they have is ronda rousey, with jon jones being out , and anderson silvas career being over.

and no word if gsp will ever return.

The last couple Memorial day shows have not been good PPV buy-wise. I think this one does ok despite google searches: 450-500K PPV buys.

D- the UFC’s stars dont make 3 million a fight. lol. their superstars do which is soooo sad and pathetic. their stars (machida, rockhold, anthony johnson) make 100-500k per fight. which is equally sad. froach has made over 3 million a fight as has hopkins, bradley, marquez, canelo. listen your dumb. i’m not arguing fighter pay with you on any level anymore because the debate is over. even mma fans arent arguing this. you with your stupid “yeah but our newbies make 5k a fight argument and nebie boxers make 500 bucks” who gives a flying fuck. Boxers make more once they become good. stop arguing this. your the only one and danna white. “cotto only made 17 milion…..) blah blah fuckin blah. your JEALOUS. hes getting paid to fight mostly and the fact they are paying a Boxer this is enogh. No one is approaching UFC fighters with that money. you sound dumb. seriously stop. no one denies Boxers get paid more.

If Canelo fough Lara and lucas matthese fought garcia on the undercard it would do 500k. ppv numbers say it all. 4.7 million ppv buys hwne the numbers come in. the public is telling you how much they love boxing dummy. they PAID 100 dollars to watch a fight. the ufc could never charge that much. Boxing had a bigger ppv year lasy year (excuse to many injuries). and it will again this year. Do you realize how dumb you sound. “boxing is dying

the last live gate was bigger than the FUCKIN SUPERBOWL in a much smaller facility. Its dying but did bigger than the SUPERBOWL. (facpalm) you are very dumb. the last time i will acknowledge you is regarding your name change at the end of this year. later dry humping supporter

OK folks! this gate is the biggest pile of bullshit the UFC has said in quite some time!!! So they are saying this show did better then ufc 167? GSP vs Hendricks. hahaha yea sure!!! Another attempt by the UFC to do damage control for all the low numbesr they have had recently. Counting casino comps as full ticket sells is a desperate attempt! In the end it doesn’t matter because the ppv will be low. Funny how they couldn’t lie like fuck when they were in Canada but Vegas has different rules. Take note that they are only stroking their own dicks and anyone with half a brain is laughing!!!

Saldaqueef doesn’t understand how math works. He can’t add.

GSP vs Hendricks according to the UFC did a gate of $5.758m with an attendance of 14,856.

UFC 187 did $5.189m with an attendance of 12,615.

Also stop throwing out your delusional casino comp bullshit that you pull out of your ass.

By the way ass head, the biggest gate they ever did by far was in Canada when they did a gate of 12m.

Apparently D hasn’t figured out how to find the average ticket price that shows 187 was higher then 167. D wouldn’t know how to figure out a show settlement or know what he is looking at. And yes the UFC counts casino comps as premium sells, D wouldn’t know because google doesn’t explain it! Another huge fart by D

D has no idea what he is talking about and doesn’t understand numbers So lets see accoutring to the UFC, 187 was one of the highest evens in history!! having higher gates then 90% or more of the all time ufc gates, and one of the highest ticket averages ever!! please smoke another dick if anyone believes that! Oh and the UFC has a new trick they use to increase their sell percentage, they use sponsor money to buy tickets at premium value! The things people don’t know bahahahaha

This card proved that steroids work. Belfort looked like a GI Joe action figure that had been melted. If the fight had happened in Brazil, with Belfort’s full pharma available to him, Weidman probably doesn’t stand up to those shots. But without the ‘roids he doesn’t have quite the same power.

I did pay for the card and I was happy to do so. The Browne/Arlovski round was damn near worth it alone. Regardless, I want the UFC to do well but I do not think that the PPV buys are going to be anywhere close to 500k. IF they were I think that White would already be hyping the interest, but that is just a guess.
