UFC Fight Night 66 on Saturday morning from Manila, Philippines drew 575,000 viewers on FS1 per Sports TV Ratings. The prelims which preceded the main card drew 246,000 viewers.
Per Nielsen sources, the card peaked with 718,000 viewers during the 1:15pm-1:30pm ET quarter hour. The main event featured Urijah Faber taking on Frankie Edgar with Edgar pulling out the unanimous decision. The card also featured the retirement match for Mark Munoz who gave a very emotional farewell before the Filipino fans.
Per Sports TV Ratings, the NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star race on FS1 drew 3.8 million viewers later that day. Also, HBO Boxing did well later Saturday night.
Payout Perspective:
Saturday morning fights are difficult to gage but FS1 and the UFC did a good job of promoting the early start (really early on the west coast). Faber-Edgar was a good matchup on paper and people tuned in to check it out. Also, the UFC picked a time without the NBA or NHL competing with it and the Preakness was later that day too.

wow boxing more then doubled the UFC on sat! UFC excuse comity feel free to chime in! bahahahahah MMA is controlling what?
FightBusiness says
a legitimately intriguing fight between two STARS. Shit did a 718k peak. It was in the day so lets just say it does a 1.3 million in prime time and i’m being kind. on basic cable with two elite stars those ratings still suck.
spare me with Boxing’s spike ratings. no elite stars have been featured on spike. Amir khan vs Algeri will definately do over 1.3 million ppv buys. algeri is not a star. i do acknowlege the spike ratings were bad though

Haha. Sal in retard mode attempts to compare a non title fight low weight card where the main event was at 1:15pm to a boxing night match that included one of boxing’s biggest stars. Moron.

Here’s a fair comparison- Wlad Klitschko did 468k viewers on an ESPN against Leapai.
Talk about a turdburger. HAHHAHA!!

Can we get a comparison between the other early day events? This sounds about par for the course for live show and replays.

Pretty good ratings for afternoon card between 2 very known fighters …. And don’t bring up klitsckos vs leapAi .. Espn picked up that fight few days before the fight lol no commercials no 2 month promotion letting people know it will be on ESPN anyways strong ratings for faber vs edgar shocked it did well sadly the fight didn’t live up

Why do people like FightBusiness and Sal post on a MMA site?
1. To Sal. Who in God’s name would even try to compare a MORNING tv broadcast on Fox Sports One to anything? It’s a morning card. The entire west coast probably never even got up to watch it. The fact that the UFC found 718,000 people to even tune around lunchtime is pretty amazing in and by itself. But nothing more can be drawn from that. It was a rare morning show.
2. In response to FightBusiness’s comments, “a legitimately intriguing fight between two STARS”
Come on FightBusiness. Not to bust your balls, but do you even watch MMA anymore?
I think it’s a bit of a stretch to call Frankie Edgar a UFC ‘star’. While he was the champ a few years back, and had some big matches against BJ Penn, he’s never been a big draw. Not one of Frankie Edgar’s PPV bouts is even in the top 30 ppv’s of all time. He’s never pulled in those types of mega numbers.
And Urijah Faber. He might have been a ‘star’, back in 2010, 2011 or maybe 2012. But anyone knowledgeable MMA fan knows otherwise now. MMA people in the know have watched Faber get free shot after free shot at belts, and each time, falling short. Faber’s had three mostly free shots at titles now, and has lost each time. And not good losses either. They were all mostly lopsided. The Edgar fight only confirmed what we already knew (at least knowledgeable fans). At this point in time, Faber is close to 37 and not a ‘star’. He’s kind of a TV filler using his past to get a few fans in the door. Nothing more or less than that.

Yes its too bad 2 great fighters and former world champions aren’t stars in mma! Truth is Kimbo will draw more, it just shows the thin fight mentality of a lot of mma fans! And why the fuck wouldn’t I compare Saturday, boxing is dead right? the UFC is the fastest growing sport right? Their are no real boxing fans anymore right? the UFC stole all the boxing fans right? world domination right? boxing should not existent in 2015 right? Maypac ruined boxing right? I post here because I am sick of all the lies, excuses, you used a lame excuse btw, and straight up manipulation of numbers by the ufc and fuck tards that post on hear. If the UFC was so big it wouldn’t matter what time a show is. The main event didn’t happen till almost 1 pm. So I guess the NFL tanks at 1pm right?
d says
Sal, you post here because you are a retarded, nut job, quack. You’ve been ranting like a madman for years on here as an avenue to release your manic, crazy energy.
And to compare Sunday afternoon sports ratings with Saturday afternoon ratings is again, one of your many retarded comments. Not to mention of course comparing anything to the NFL is a joke because it destroys everything in terms of ratings. Nothing is even close. Plus everyone knows when those games are on. How many people even knew Edgar was fighting Faber there? It was a fight to draw interest in the Phillipines, not the US or else they would have shifted the time of the fight.

Sorry, but ‘former’ champions don’t remain top draws forever. People’s skills drop off.
I have never said ‘boxing is dead’, so perhaps you might want to get your quotes straight, rather than make an ass out of yourself.

Frankie Edgar is a good fighter who should be a star. and the fact that he isnt tells me that unless your awesome in the ufc no one cares. 1/3 of mma payouts articles have to do with kickboxing or boxing. dont let the name confuse you. they post boxing stuff several times weekly. they want to learn comoabt sports business from the best. why would they post GGG and Canelo HBO numbers if they werent a boxing site as well.thats pretty detailed stuff.
d says
Wow you are retarded. Frankie Edgar is not a champion. He was years ago. Did you seriously just say unless you are awesome no one cares?
What the fuck do they care in boxing?? They don’t even give a shit about the best fighter in the world. He has yet to sell a ppv. HAHAHAHA!!
“1/3 of mma payouts articles have to do with kickboxing or boxing. ”
False. It is closer to 10%. You are brain dead and have no concept of reality.
“why would they post GGG and Canelo HBO numbers if they werent a boxing site as well.thats pretty detailed stuff.”
More like, if they were also a boxing site, why do they call themselves MMAPAYOUT???? RETARRRRRRD!

–Ok, PBC on CBS was at noon and did 1.6m and 1.4m for their two cards that were on at noon.
Is that a fair comparison? They tripled the UFC card and dont try to tell me Omar Fiqueroa is a superstar or Ricky Burns.

NO you stupid idiot!!!! CBS is network tv, FS1 is an upstart sports channel on cable.
God you are retarded.

Pretty good ratings for a super early event without a championship fight.
And they didn’t have to pay for the time slot – unlike Haymon’s PBC series.

@Matt too bad top 10 fighters are ignored by most mma fans! also Edgar could very easily be champ again.I guess you have to have a cunt and an ass to be recognized by Dana and the fans these days I guess your parents had a block on mma sites when the entire MMa world said boxing was dead. It was probably after your bedtime.
Another Johnny come lately! Maybe if you were really a fan and not some paid hooker by the UFC you might realize that you talk out your ass with slanted stats and bullshit excuses. Are you getting paid free fight pass too? like D=Diarrhea. Can you spew out some more ufc talking points handed down by the Fuhrer Dana white and the entire zuffa machine of dogshit lies? You need to brush up on your lame, out dated, and laughable UFC deception. Boxing has plenty of problems too, but there is more then one game in town. Ok done with rant
