UFC 182 not sold out heading into event

January 3, 2015 by MMAPayout Moderator 26 Comments

Taking place today is what many consider to be UFC’s biggest event in almost a year. UFC 168: Silva vs Weidman took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in December of 2013, the same venue where UFC 182 is being held. Surprisingly enough, this event was not a sell out and there were plenty of seats available as of last night via Ticket Master.

UFC_182_NotSoldOut

Top 5 MGM Grand Gates:

  1. UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II: $6,901,655 gate; 15,104 attendance
  2. UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva II: $6,238,792 gate; 15,650 attendance
  3. UFC 167: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks: $5,759,350 gate; 14,856 attendance
  4. UFC 66: Liddell vs. Ortiz II: $5,397,300 gate; 13,761 attendance
  5. UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman: $4,826,450 gate; 14,272 attendance

Payout Perspective:

It may be a bit surprising to some that today’s event was not a sellout after the impressive promotional push the UFC has given the this event over the past several months.  Some of the factors here include bad timing with the holidays, NFL Playoffs, and CFB Bowl Games. Another big factor is the highly priced tickets just after the holiday season and the fact that there is another big UFC event, UFC 183: Silva vs Diaz, that will take place in the exact same venue just a few weeks away on January 31st.

Due to the factors mentioned, UFC 182 will find it difficult to break into the top 3 MGM Grand gates and attendance.  In fact, the UFC was doing their best to give away tickets just before the event on Twitter , which is a good indicator that there will be quite a few complimentary tickets for this event.  Either way, the UFC should do a gate between $3-4M if their promotional push proves to be successful.  On the PPV side, Dana White predicted that they are looking at the event doing around 750K PPV buys.

Uhh maybe you dont know what good mma is d. 5 decisions, with at least 2 bouts having no business on ppv. Also what the eff was Josh Burkman doing on that card as well. Ufc needs to justify the price increase but not with this bullshit. Good main event tho. Maybe ufc is trying tocopy boxing.

The main event looked like 2 out of shape club fighters who needed to go back on ped’s. last 2 rounds were a joke, both breathing out of their mouth and stalling, granted they are supposedly the best at 205 but seriously I didn’t see anything exciting or spectacular. And whats this bullshit announcing Jones as the undesputed champion??

Uh maybe that is because you are a complete fucking idiot.

Josh Burkman was on the main card because he is a good fighter. Look at what Lombard (who is cheating beyond recognition did against Shields. Burkman gave him problems despite being injured, not being able to train for 3 weeks during camp, and then getting the flu right before the fight. You stupid fucking idiot.

Sal, although I know that Cormier and Jones do not have the cardio of the board breakers at your loco dojo, they kept a very strong pace early on in the fight.

You are too fucking dumb to realize why fighters get fatigued. You can’t even get out of your wheel chair, ya dirty old fuck.

Saldaqueef is still so retarded he can’t grasp the concept of the fact that the attendance is irrelevant. He thinks when his sensei rents out a banquet hall and all the parents show up, that is a successful show despite the fact that they weren’t paying. He doesn’t know what taxes are, he can’t grasp what a corporation is and when I called him out on it, he got a bit cranky and now he is attempting to act tough in his wheel chair. Geriatric paraplegics attempting to act tough are amusing. I must have really struck a nerve.

The attendance is relevant D, you moron. How can you say its not?
They put everything they had into this ppv building it up and they cant even sell out?

I don’t know how you can blind yourself to reality, but MMA is a niche fad.
Its lost alot of interest and it will continue to plummet.

MMAFAG, you idiot. Kevin Iole columns don’t validate your argument you stupid shit. The card was good. The only one that wasn’t on the main card was the Burkman fight because of the reason I described with his health. You just don’t comprehend the fight game.
