MMA Junkie reports the salaries for Saturday’s UFC 175. The salaries which were disclosed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission has Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida on top of the salary list for the night.

Payout Perspective:
The salary list does not include Stefan Struve and Matt Mitrione as that fight was scrapped due to a medical issue on the part of Struve. According to The Wrestling Observer’s podcast, both were given their show and win purse. This was confirmed by at least Mitrione as he tweeted he received both.
Weidman showed why he was the top earner of the night. For that matter, Machida also showed why he commands $200,000 per fight. Rousey has yet to crack the six figure base although its her third straight UFC fight with a bonus. Faber rounds out the group of 4 that earned six figures at UFC 175.
Its a shame! Faber 20g’s? he had the best fight of the night imo.

Lowest paid fighter made 8k. I wish I could say the same thing for a major boxing ppv, but most of their prelim fighters only make 2-5k usually.

Actually no, it all depends on what his contract states regarding PPV. If he starts getting a cut after 250k buys then maybe he’ll make some decent money, but who knows how his contract is structured regarding getting a piece of the PPV. For some fighters it doesn’t even kick in until after 500k buys (A nice way of saying it’ll never happen).
There is only a very small handful of current & former MMA fighters that have made a couple of millions per fight, and that is adding up PPV, fight purse, bonuses, sponsors, etc. Pretty sad what these guys are making compared to their boxing counterparts, just being completely taken advantage of by the UFC.

Sounds like you created that out of thin air seeing how the evidence we have is from 2 specific contracts that were disclosed- the Eddie Alvarez one and Randy Couture’s neither said anything about 500k being the bar. Couture’s was lower than Alvarez’s too.

Fewer than 100,000: No bonus
100,000 – 175,000: $1 per buy
175,000 – 300,000: $1.5 per buy
300,000 – 330,000: $2 per buy
Over 330,000: $3 per buy
Alvarez’s was as follows:
200,000-400,000 $1 per buy,
400,000-600,000 $2 per buy
600,000 buys and up $2.50 per buy
That $500k and up you probably completely fabricated.
This also doesn’t include signing bonuses, like what Couture received which ranged in the millions. Their pay to promote the fight. Any additional bonuses which the UFC has been known to dish out, sponsorship money, etc.
Also, you like comparing apples with oranges. Those boxing counterparts-you know, the few guys who actually make a million per fight boxing which is also only a handful, mostly co promote their own events. They invest their money into the event which is why they get those larger split. Plus even factoring that it, last year, there were probably only 3 boxers that made more than St Pierre did. Not to mention, for the most part, you’d be much better off on the undercard of a ufc fight than a boxing fight. The pay is disgusting for boxing on an undercard level usually.

I was pointing that out about tv, but those license fees are generally significantly lower than even a decent ppv. Take for example Marquez-Bradley which drew only 375k ppvs, yet Arum was thrilled with it. He expected it to do in the 300-400k range. What does that say about HBO license fees? Haha. The fighters always prefer to fight on ppv, but when they know they won’t make money from it, they won’t put them on ppv, which is why Andre Ward has never headlined a ppv yet. Also, the Broner fight, when it was scheduled they were only expecting to do 250-300k buys, but based on the ticket sales that bombed, they scapped the ppv, because they knew the buy rate would come in significantly lower than 250k buys. Most likely would have done under 100k. They also had to move the venue from Vegas to down South. This may be the first year boxing may have a diverse enough talent pool where they can have a few more ppvs sell, but still not many. Look at what 2 big names like Cotto-Martinez did? 300k buys. That is what happens when you spread out your ppvs. When you only have 4 a year and put tens of millions into promoting them, of course they will do more per event than if you have double or triple that.
