Main event fighters top UFC 175 salaries

July 6, 2014 by Jason Cruz 34 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the salaries for Saturday’s UFC 175.  The salaries which were disclosed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission has Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida on top of the salary list for the night.

Via MMA Junkie:

Chris Weidman: $450,000 (includes $225,000 win bonus)

def. Lyoto Machida: $200,000

Ronda Rousey: $120,000 (includes $60,000 win bonus)

def. Alexis Davis: $24,000

Uriah Hall: $20,000 (includes $10,000 win bonus)

def. Thiago “Marreta” Santos: $10,000

def. Marcus Brimage: $10,000

Urijah Faber: $120,000 (includes $60,000 win bonus)

Luke Zachrich: $16,000 (includes $8,000 win bonus)

def. Guilherme Vasconcelos: $8,000

Kevin Casey: $16,000 (includes $8,000 win bonus)

def. William “Bubba” Bush: $8,000

Payout Perspective:

The salary list does not include Stefan Struve and Matt Mitrione as that fight was scrapped due to a medical issue on the part of Struve.  According to The Wrestling Observer’s podcast, both were given their show and win purse.  This was confirmed by at least Mitrione as he tweeted he received both.

Weidman showed why he was the top earner of the night. For that matter, Machida also showed why he commands $200,000 per fight.  Rousey has yet to crack the six figure base although its her third straight UFC fight with a bonus.  Faber rounds out the group of 4 that earned six figures at UFC 175.

Weidman definitely made a few million for this one.

Lowest paid fighter made 8k. I wish I could say the same thing for a major boxing ppv, but most of their prelim fighters only make 2-5k usually.

Actually no, it all depends on what his contract states regarding PPV. If he starts getting a cut after 250k buys then maybe he’ll make some decent money, but who knows how his contract is structured regarding getting a piece of the PPV. For some fighters it doesn’t even kick in until after 500k buys (A nice way of saying it’ll never happen).

There is only a very small handful of current & former MMA fighters that have made a couple of millions per fight, and that is adding up PPV, fight purse, bonuses, sponsors, etc. Pretty sad what these guys are making compared to their boxing counterparts, just being completely taken advantage of by the UFC.

D, Weidman didn’t make millions this fight.
He made what you see at the top of this article.
Your not going to make millions when your ppv only sells 300k-500k.

Also nice dig on boxing by trying to say major boxing ppvs pay prelims only 2k.
    Your full of shit.
Every UFC ppv is full of guys only making 8k.
Mayweather last ppv had 4 boxers making over $1mil with no one making only 2k.

Boxers make more than UFC fighters, no matter what way you try to spin it D.

Illogical, you aren’t so bright. Every champion has ppv points into their contract. Also, saying it doesn’t kick in until 500k buys, where did you get that from? Sounds like you created that out of thin air seeing how the evidence we have is from 2 specific contracts that were disclosed- the Eddie Alvarez one and Randy Couture’s neither said anything about 500k being the bar. Couture’s was lower than Alvarez’s too.

    Couture’s as follows:

    Number of buys: Bonus

    Fewer than 100,000: No bonus
    100,000 – 175,000: $1 per buy
    175,000 – 300,000: $1.5 per buy
    300,000 – 330,000: $2 per buy
    Over 330,000: $3 per buy

    Alvarez’s was as follows:

    200,000-400,000 $1 per buy,
    400,000-600,000 $2 per buy
600,000 buys and up $2.50 per buy

That $500k and up you probably completely fabricated.

This also doesn’t include signing bonuses, like what Couture received which ranged in the millions. Their pay to promote the fight. Any additional bonuses which the UFC has been known to dish out, sponsorship money, etc.

Also, you like comparing apples with oranges. Those boxing counterparts-you know, the few guys who actually make a million per fight boxing which is also only a handful, mostly co promote their own events. They invest their money into the event which is why they get those larger split. Plus even factoring that it, last year, there were probably only 3 boxers that made more than St Pierre did. Not to mention, for the most part, you’d be much better off on the undercard of a ufc fight than a boxing fight. The pay is disgusting for boxing on an undercard level usually.

Chris is doing just fine, he signed a new deal AFTER beating Anderson Silva. I would imagine that Chris, as a champ, would have something along the lines of Overeem and Gil, both of which start getting a cut at next to nothing.

Boxing did that with what… 4 events? It took the UFC more than 3X their events to sell LESS than double? How about that for perspective?

Or how about the highest selling boxing PPV doing 3X the highest selling UFC PPV.

4 events? No, boxing had tons of events, they only did 4 ppvs because that was all they could sell. Andre Ward the 2nd best fighter in the world has never headlined a ppv. Haha. Also, you seem to forget they had to cancel the Broner ppv too because no one was going to buy it and they were estimating a major loss had tv not saved them. The fighters/promoters always prefer ppv, but when they can’t profit from them, they have to stick with tv.

    6million vs. 3.88million, judges??? HAHAHAHA!!

    Oh 4 PPVs?

What is the average? 950,000 buys per event?

Boxing only puts on PPV events if they will outdo HBO license fees. You should know that Lil nuts….

That’s all they could sell genius. If they could have sold ppvs with other fighters, they would have.

They can’t. That is the difference.

I was pointing that out about tv, but those license fees are generally significantly lower than even a decent ppv. Take for example Marquez-Bradley which drew only 375k ppvs, yet Arum was thrilled with it. He expected it to do in the 300-400k range. What does that say about HBO license fees? Haha. The fighters always prefer to fight on ppv, but when they know they won’t make money from it, they won’t put them on ppv, which is why Andre Ward has never headlined a ppv yet. Also, the Broner fight, when it was scheduled they were only expecting to do 250-300k buys, but based on the ticket sales that bombed, they scapped the ppv, because they knew the buy rate would come in significantly lower than 250k buys. Most likely would have done under 100k. They also had to move the venue from Vegas to down South. This may be the first year boxing may have a diverse enough talent pool where they can have a few more ppvs sell, but still not many. Look at what 2 big names like Cotto-Martinez did? 300k buys. That is what happens when you spread out your ppvs. When you only have 4 a year and put tens of millions into promoting them, of course they will do more per event than if you have double or triple that.

I know that was a lot of info for an autistic kid to take in, but try to go through it. You may sound like you know something next time.

Ahahahahahaha haha! More nonsense from toy UFC fan.

Boxing has always gone where the money is. If HBO pays the dough… No reason to go on PPV. Same with Showtime.

UFC is fucked since there are no competing networks for their superbly shitty product.

How many PPVs will they sell this year? How will they manage to pay back their $500 million debt in less than 11 months?

And why do you keep bringing up Andre Wards name? He’s a nobody in the boxing landscape with no Charisma and no fighting style. If anything he fights like a UFC fighter wrestling and holding all night long. The people don’t wanna see that garbage.

On the other hand… Look at what Carl Froch is doing with his career. Huge money against Groves. Huge payday on the horizon against Chavez or Degale. Ward can rot as far as most boxing fans care. There is PLENTY of boxing talent INTERNATIONALLY to keep real fans interested.

    🙂

Sampson, what is very funny is how stupid you are. No, HBO will never pay what a decent ppv will pay. You need to educate yourself on the subject. Going back to that Marquez-Bradley fight which did 375k, and generated 22.5 million from the ppv alone. Do you think HBO would offer anywhere near that figure? If you do, you are beyond retarded which at this point is evident. The promoters/boxers go to ppv first if they can sell one, if they can’t, they fall back on tv. Why is this hard to grasp?

UFC is fucked? Hahaha. More autistic comments. Right, there are no competing networks, that is why there was a bidding war for the tv rights, which FOX won and paid them $100 million per year. HAHAHA!!! Idiot!

When they pay the debt off and your year long+ rant is debunked, what delusional angle are you going to come back with tard?

Andre Ward is a nobody?? Many people would argue he is the best boxer in the world right now p4p. He has been champ for quite some time, yet never headlined a ppv. Demetrious Johnson sold more ppv buys than Ward. HAHAHA!! You are right people don’t want to see a conservative Andre Ward fight, they would prefer the most conservative fighter that ever lived in Floyd Mayweather run away for an entire 12 rounds throwing jabs and bragging about how he never gets touched. By the way, the finishing rates in mma are significantly higher than in boxing, even more notably on a championship level.

UK Market??? HAHAHAHAHA!! Keep comparing the UK to the US. The fight of the century in the UK probably wouldn’t crack the top 50 ufc ppvs all time. Your $27 ppv’s are laughable.
