MMA Junkie reports on the attendance, gate and bonuses from last night’s UFC Fight Night 42 from the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
For its first visit to New Mexico, the UFC drew 8,775 fans for a gate of $697,901 according to the announcement at the post-fight press conference. The Tingley Coliseum is said to hold 11,571 but there was no word on the configuration for last night’s event. The number of comps were not identified as well.
The bonuses were $50,000 each and were awarded to Benson Henderson, Piotr Hallman, Scott Jorgenson and Danny Martinez. Jorgenson and Martinez won for “Fight of the Night.”
Payout Perspective:
The last stateside fight night was UFC Fight Night 40 on May 10th in Cincinnati which drew less than Saturday’s event. In his 10th fight for the UFC, Henderson had his first finish with an RNC over Rustam Khabilov. Many may not have seen the Jorgenson-Martinez fight as it was on the Prelims on FX, not its usual FS1 (or FS2) slot due to conflicts.

There was only 1 take-away from this card — Sanchez split decision win. I like Diego. He lost. Not even close. Yet when they announced split decision, I knew he would be announced the winner. If you want to be taken seriously as a sports/league, you cannot allow these type of things to happen without taken action to prevent them in the future.

I agree. That was a strange one. I thought it was a clear decision. A split with 29-28s for Sanchez would have been tough to swallow – 30-27 for Sanchez is absurd. Do we know where those judges come from? Sometimes you get inexperienced judges when you go to new places.
Not bad numbers for the first time in NM, at least they were smart and didnt go for a full size 20 k arena. Most markets will only sell 8k or so.

Assassin, are you implying that boxing doesn’t have the same exact issue? If not maybe worse, because there are more decisions in championship boxing.
That isn’t to say nothing should change, just because it occurs in another sport….
I know UFC will claim (and I don’t know) that their hands are tied in situations like this.
They mention that the state athletic commissions are the deciders when issues arise. But is there really no action the UFC can take with state commissions when there is horrible judging like over the weekend?
This is a really big deal when you start realizing these judges are taking money out of peoples pockets, I felt bad for Pearson (hopefully UFC made it right behind the scenes).

OMG boxing decisions lol bad decisions have been going on since the beginning of time. it happens in all sports not just the combat sports. MMA is no exception just less money wagered on it.
