TUF 19 Episode 8: 497,000 viewers

June 5, 2014 by Jason Cruz 7 Comments

MMA Payout has learned from a Nielsen source that Episode 8 of TUF 19 received an average viewership of 497,000 viewers.  This week was slightly up from the prior week despite going up against the Stanley Cup.

Episode 8 featured the “Coaches’ Challenge” sponsored by Autozone which actually was a kayak  race between the coaches.  Despite Edgar’s protests that the challenge was rigged, BJ Penn won the race proving that he is a true Waterman.  In the fight of the episode, Eddie Gordon defeated Mike King.

Payout Perspective:

The live rating is a surprise considering the Stanley Cup featuring the two biggest media markets (NY and LA) were going on at the same time and the game went into overtime.  We should see a considerable bump from DVR viewership as one might assume many fans of both MMA and hockey recorded the show to watch hockey.

these numbers are not bad they are just mediocre. but why is the UFC pairing these guys up? Its freakin weird. Get a compelling fight going. I’m sure if they were setting up a good fight the numbers would hit about 800k an episode which isnt bad for a reality tv show

This season of Tuf was a miss calculation on the UFC’s part. No one really cares about any of these 2 fighters. Both are past their prime and Edgar couldn’t knock out a girl so another boring decision with Frankie winning again and less then 300 ppv buys I guess these fighters still owe the UFC some fights so what the hell, but crap numbers. This should have been a tuf 5 years ago. Might be a reflection of newer fans that dont even know who BJ even is.

It seems that TKO has really screwed up WWE/Wrestlemania with ads and celebs and getting away from the heart of pro wrestling - and talented performers are paying the price.
