Listen up: UFC-Monster launch headphones

January 6, 2014 by Jason Cruz 2 Comments

The UFC and its official sponsor, Monster Headphones, announced the launch of its new UFC Monster Octagon Headphones at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis was present to promote the new product.

In addition to Pettis, Shaquille O’Neal and Nick Cannon made appearances for the new headphones at the big electronics conference being held this week.

Payout Perspective:

We’ve all seen fighters wearing the headphones to the Octagon even though they are not connected to Ipods. The headphones are the fighters’ newest sponsorship accessory. Headphones are a big market that Monster helped create with Dr. Dre. “Beats” early marketing strategy for its high-end headphones was giving them out to athletes (i.e., NBA, NFL stars). Any video/photos of athletes warming up or coming off the team bus you could see them wearing the headphones with the signature logo. Beats saw its revenues increase to over $1 billion in 2012.

The UFC and Monster look to break into the market by tapping into the UFC demo. Will the Monster headphones be able to recreates its success it found with Dre? Despite the lofty price tag of Beats and the suspect performance of the product, 59% of the luxury headphones sold in the U.S. carry the distinctive lower-case “b”.

No word on how much they will be but we assume it will be comparable to Beats by Dre.
