MMA Junkie reports that UFC 168 drew 15,650 for a live gate of $6.2 million. In addition, Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate and Travis Browne earned $75K bonuses as announced by Dana White at the post-fight press conference.
White announced the attendance and gate at the presser as well. UFC 168 attendance at the MGM Grand came in second to UFC 148 also featuring Anderson Silva (against Chael Sonnen in their rematch). On that night the gate was $6.9 million with 15,104 in attendance.
The bonuses were up $25K from the standard $50K as each bonus was $75K tonight:

The attendance and gate numbers were as predicted earlier this week. The promotion and fights lead to big interest in this end of year event. Women’s MMA stole the show once again as Miesha Tate, despite losing, survived enough of the fight with Rousey to gain some respect from MMA fans that all but agreed this would be a 1st round submission. Despite boos, Rousey leaves tonight with two bonuses plus her show purse and win bonus which totals to a reported $250K. Tate made her show money ($28K) plus the $75K bonus for a total of $103K.

Tops – it’s probably because they put on 2 cards with 2 title fights. (168 & 169). Hence, she gets to get back in there relatively quickly.

@Saldathief even if they did give out a few more comps, UFC 168 is still the second biggest United States gate in UFC history and UFC 167 and 162 from this year are in the top 5.

If you can read then you sure haven’t learned how to use it to learn anything else. Higher attendance and lower gate doesn’t have to mean there were more comps. In case you are not award. There are many different price ranges for seats. It could very well be that there were less comps but fewer higher prices tickets sold.
Also ticket prices for UFC 148 was higher than UFC 168. UFC 148 prices ranged from 125-1,200. UFC 168 was 100-1,000. Which was why there was more people but a lower gate. IF you increase the average ticket price $50 for all 15,650 tickets to match the average ticket price of 148. Then you will end up with exactly the same gate. I would guess there was about the same comps or less.
Almost all UFC fighters wants to fight as soon as possible ….they should be on 170 as well

1) I am constantly disgusted to the core by Rousey. She is a HORRIBLE ambassador for the sport. 2) I think all this “comp” talk is getting overblown. People naturally have a tendency to think of it in the negative “free” light, but they are not nearly the same.
I agree about the comps. Cant say I agree about Ronda. I don’t like her but her being a bitch makes me hate her more and want to see her beat. It will make the person who beats her very popular.
To be honest it was Her and Tates first fight that won me over to female MMA. It was their attitudes exactly that did it. To see one get hurt and the other hurt her and neither one backed down and talked shit to each other after the fact. Showed me they had real fighting instinct. Real toughness and it showed the heart of what MMA is all about. MMA is at its core based on real fighting. Its hard to see the point in someone fighting if a real fight is not in them. For once it didn’t come across as two girls going through the motions to be like the guys. Their actions made me respect them. Even if I dotn agree with it all the time or want to see it all the time. It is good to know it is there and there is some who are there to fight and not just play a game.
Her being the Brock Lesnar of WMMA isn’t a bad thing. Even if I don’t prefer ir personally. Then again if everyone like it. A person couldn’t be polarizing could they? Those are the people who are fascinating and get the most attention and money.
Ok reading isn’t my best but at least I can do simple addition lol Lower ticket prices, less expensive tickets sold or more comps given out whats the difference. Its less money for more attendance either way. Cant spin that to anyone with a brain.
AK yes comps given out is overblown shhh, because it shows that an event is struggling and no one wants to hear the truth when their biggest event is comped out to fill seats. So lets just pretend that there were no comps given out and we can inflate gate numbers to look like we are dong better and sponsors don’t see empty seats and start asking questions. So from now on lest just let The UFC make up any number they want since giving away free tickets doesn’t seem to be important to the way you and some others look at a bottom line. I might be in the minority here, but think the Rousey fight was all that great. Either Tate was over matched, or the womens game is not up to par. Very sloppy fight, and any top fighter should have finished that match in the 1st round, so Rousey better figure out how to get better fast, or she’ll be gassing out in longer fights.
So they raise the PPV price but lower the seat price, have a larger gate and gross less money then 148. Actually Fox could have had a lot of comps, could be part of the deal.

Lots of times comps are not a good thing. Sometimes they are meaningless. This even had lots of celebs. They do not pay for tickets. Hell even Shane Carwin tweeted Dana White asking for tickets. Also I am sure many casinos are given comps and comps are given to companies to promote the even. Like radio stations for example.
Comps are only bad when they are used to cover up a lack of interest. Only a dumbass would think this event had a lack of interest. Then you guys further make fools of your self by trying to use your 3rd grade math to predict there were more (meaningless) comps than last time. Like I said. Tickets were cheaper so the gate is naturally going to do less than a higher prices event with the same attendance.
One could argue the UFC shouldn’t have lowered the ticket prices. But maybe at the time they set the event up that price was accurate and the even was bigger than they expected. Maybe they didn’t want to take any chances and didn’t try to risk using higher prices. In the end it doesn’t matter. Just because they didn’t sell them for more doesn’t mean they couldn’t have sold them for more.

I agree with you about WMMA. I think there is still that fighter vs house wife feel to a lot of the fights. They will change in time. Its really a new sport for them. I do think the fights are exciting though. Mens MMA I think the fights should be meaningful over entertaining but both are nice. But the realism needs to be there. WMMA is like the UFC in 1995. But due to the lack of wrestling among females. The fights tend to be constant action. Because there is no control on the ground. They roll around like kids. You don’t get punished while on the bottom like you do in the mens. So the bottom isn’t as feared. So this allows girls to go for mounted or top control submissions that you rarely see men risk losing top position for. You almost never seen mounted armbars from men. Pounding away on top is less risky because if you miss. It isn’t as easy to get off the bottom or get top control back. Back in the day top grapplers went for anything they wanted. Not people are to good to catch and to good at making you pay for missing. Woman will get there. It will take time.
