Second episode of Rampage4Real: 559,000 viewers

October 28, 2013 by Jason Cruz 6 Comments

MMA Payout has learned that the second episode of the three part #Rampage4Real documentary received a 559,000 viewer average which is up from its first episode.  The episode came a day before the big news that Tito Ortiz was injured and could not fight Rampage on November 2nd.

#Rampage4Real Episode 1:  404,000 viewers, 473,000 viewers DVR +3

#Rampage4Real Episode 2:  559,000 viewers

Payout Perspective:

It will be interesting to see what Spike does with the third episode considering it means nothing. If it airs the third episode, it runs the risk of confusing viewers that Rampage is still fighting Saturday. Spike has swiftly put together a Michael Chandler-Eddie Alvarez episode entitled, “Chandler-Alvarez: Unfinished Business” which aired Monday night.  With the news of Rampage taken off of Saturday’s card and the promotion steering its efforts into Chandler-Alvarez, we shall see if the network does with this three-part documentary.

Not that it matters now that it will no longer be a PPV, and Rampage is off the card, but for comparison purposes Jason dug up this data:

Here are the first run ratings for UFC 166 Primetime
October 2nd Primetime 126,000 viewer average
October 8th Primetime 85,000 viewer average
October 16th Primetime: 158,000 viewer average

Suddenly the Rampage4Real ratings aren’t looking so shabby.

That’s pretty crazy that rampage4real gets better ratings than primetime. Both shows suck, but the UFC should not get beat by anything done by Bellator/SPIKE.

    Random Dude,

Agreed. I’m surprised this is the case. I think it’s the Spike effect. Spike seems to be a much better platform for the MMA demo than whatever Fox channel the Primetime was aired on – FS1, FS2, FX, FXx, FoxDeportes, Fox Soccer, Fox El Ocho. I couldn’t tell you where most of them are on the dial.

There is something to be said for having everything at the same bat time, on the same bat channel. I almost missed this past weekend’s UFC event because I couldn’t find the damn thing. Turns out FS2 isn’t an HD channel, so I was looking in the wrong place. Also at the wrong time. Also for the wrong headliners.

Is this mostly in part due to the UFC bouncing around stations so much?

I wish someone would write an article specifically on how much is to blame on FS1. Is there any real way of knowing or measuring?

If people watch MMA on Spike, and it’s beating UFC, that shows there’s still general interest in the sport.

The UFC makes $130 million in Brazil last year, $6 million in 2009, that’s from both Globo (Network TV) and Combate (subscription Combat TV network)
