MMA Payout has learned that Wednesday night’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter Episode 5 received an average viewership of 640,000 viewers. It received an 0.4 rating among adults 18-49.
Wednesday’s episode reflects a downturn in ratings from the week prior. This can be seen as a correlation between male fights and female fights as this week featured David Grant defeating Louis Fisette.
Episode 1: 762,000 viewers
Episode 2: 870,000 viewers
Episode 3: 639,000 viewers
Episode 4: 778,000 viewers
Episode 5: 640,000 viewers
Payout Perspective:
Duck Dynasty returned to the top spot in cable ratings for Wednesday at it scored over 8 million viewers in the 10pm spot opposite TUF according to Television By Numbers. In addition, South Park scored 2.4 million viewers in the 10pm spot as well.
Is that the sound of a toilet flushing i hear?
So who are these mystery viewers who show up only for the WMMA fights? Is it Wmma’s core audience all banding together and only watching the women’s episodes? 100,000 strong? Bizarre.

and the UFC 164 numbers are finally out. 270k is a bit on the low side yes? Meltzer was trying to say FOX boosted his numbers but (from 190k) I dont’ think that was necessarily all Henderson’s doing.
I’ve seen people saying they only are interested in the women fights because the division is shallow, so the winner should be an immediate contender and they’ve heard of some of the females.
To be honest I like the female fights better too. Part of it is it’s new and different and the other part is we know the guys are going to be useless. The UFC never puts it’s real prospects on TUF. But the woman on the show will make an impact and be the first big names just like the first TUF was for guys. Plus with few woman’s divisions out there and little money. Its easy for the UFC to get about all the top female fighters out there.
The biggest issue I have with TUF is it has little importance as we have so many season to see how it works. At best 2 people come off the show and get anything from the show. With that being the case. There is much better ways to do a show and promote a couple people. Instead we have to watch 20 bums for months before we find out who the 2 guys are worth our attention. It’s just not worth it IMO. Find a few prospects and do a reality show following them as they build to fight in the UFC. That way all the promotion and hype from the show goes into the meaningful fighters and not 20 guys who are going to be flipping burgers after the show. It’s wasted air time on guys who won’t be in the UFC. It made since at first because the first TUF was new and had more talent and the UFC needed more of them to fill the roster.
MMA documentaries have always been popular. That’s the style they need to go to and follow 2-3 guys in their real life and real journey. Not put on a show in a house where everyone is forced to love the same life as the 200 guys before them we have already seen.
Female fights not involvimg rousey and cyborg are pointless.
The only good mma documentary is The Smashing Machine. Kerr was awesome for being the only one to show firsthand the darkside of mma.
The Smashing Machine was great. But Choke was also good. A little slow paced. But very interesting. The one on Showtime that was about Dustin Poirier’s school was good too. MTV has done things about MMA fighters and it has always helped their career. My point was these are all low budget. With what the UFC spends on TUF. They can be even better and really make 2-3 guys really famous.
They could either follow them in their regular life. Or they can set them up in a Vegas hotel and let them use the UFC gym and see what kind of stuff they get into while living in Vegas. This was basically what the Tapout show was like. BUt that was only following a guy for 1 show for one fight then they move to another guys. Do that on a much larger scale.
Fight Factory the documentary about AKA was pretty good.
Pretty good… The Smashing Machine will be a cult classic one day.
Fight Factory was great. I really felt I got a better understanding of a MMA fighter based on the Phil Baroni arc.
Baroni? That’s all you had to say I’m definitely gonna watch that.
