MMA Junkie reports that the UFC is planning 3 “Primetime” specials for the last 3 PPV events of the year. UFC 166, 167 and 168 will have its own set of specials and while nothing has been officially announced, one might assume that the specials would air on Fox Sports 1.
The first special will feature the third fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. The second special, UFC 167, will feature Johny Hendricks as he challenges Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title. The UFC 168 special will presumably feature Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate and the anticipated rematch between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva.
Payout Perspective:
The specials complement the multi-city/multi-country press tours that were just announced by the UFC. The shows should land on FS1. Hopefully, most of us will get to see them pending carriage agreements (with DirecTV, Dish and Time Warner) yet to be completed. The specials reflect the commitment the UFC has to the last quarter of 2013 PPVs. It is spending a lot of time, energy and money on each and its expected that these shows produce for the bottom line (i.e., gate revenue and PPV buys).
Great news, Primetimes are really well done and I’m glad they are doing them for the big 3 events to end the year.
Gonna be a great end of the year for the UFC and boxing. Great time to be a fight fan.

There are three boxing PPVs in the fall with Mayweather-Alvarez, Marquez-Bradley, and Pacquiao-Rios.
Three UFC PPVs in the fall with Velasquez-Dos Santos, Hendricks-St Pierre, and Silva-Weidman 2.
Is there any question as to who will total more PPV buys?
NOPE.
Boxing will have more PPV buys those cards cause they are gonna have possibly the biggest PPV of all time.
UFC will have more buys for the year though.

168 does 1 mill, maybe 1.2 if they are lucky.
Boxing I think Manny does 700-1 mill,
JMM/Tim B is anyone’s guess, 300-400k maybe?
FLoyd/Canelo 1.5-2.5 mill, could be anywhere in between, probably 2 mill.

Prominent Boxing will have appeared in prime time that wasn’t premium cable zero times this year.
There is always friday night fights . it isn’t the boxers problem if fans can’t get it free. they are too busy getting paid. unlike mma guys who get pimped out on spike for practically nothing.
Boxing was on NBC once this year so far.

That press tour is a pretty cool idea. Saw the list and they’re taking that thing all over the place. There are definitely some good upcoming fights. Weidman/Silva 2 is great, JDS/Cain 3, and GSP vs Hendricks will be very interesting. We might have a lot of belts switching hands soon.
