GSP commercial set to debut during MLB All Star Game

July 14, 2013 by Jason Cruz 4 Comments

Georges St. Pierre will star in a new commercial promoting the UFC on Fox Sports 1 which will air Tuesday night during the MLB All-Star Game.  GSP talked about shooting the commercial and why he did his own stunts.

Payout Perspective:

We are about a month away from the launch of Fox Sports 1 and we’ll get to see a glimpse of its promotion Tuesday during the MLB All-Star Game.  The UFC will be a key contributor to the network as it will have two cards in August on Fox Sports 1.  As we’ve indicated here, analysts are excited about the new network and its predicted that it will be a worthy competitor with ESPN as the worldwide leader has fallen on hard times with layoffs and poor ratings in its last quarter.

Looks like there is a good chance Fox Sports 1 falls short. of its projected 90 million households http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2013/07/15/Media/FS1.aspx

“The fact that so many deals are open a month before a network launch is not unusual in the cable industry. Typically, carriage deals like FS1’s get finalized in the days leading up to or just after a channel’s launch.”

The piece just says it’s possible that FS1 will fall short of the network’s goal, which it is (anything’s possible), but admits that neither the network or distributors have gone on record as to the state of the negotiations. Just some reasonable speculation, nothing more.

With ESPN’s drop in ratings, I don’t see FS1 OR FS2 fairing very well. The truth is that they cost much more money than they are worth. Most people that watch TV do not do so for sports. The NFL is in it’s own league as entertainment.

Nascar, Baseball, lower-tier boxing, and UFC won’t be enough to move the needle consistently.

I believe that ESPN deliberately publicized it’s drop in ratings in order to get cable/satellite thinking twice about spending any premium dollars on competitors.

    Smart.

Right wing grift is so hilariously easy. Just write a very weird and creepy fantasy story you know your paper won’t publish, then make a public show of resigning because of it, and you’ll instantly have a job offer from Clay Travis in your inbox
