Pre-UFC 162 attendance, gate and salaries

July 6, 2013 by Jason Cruz 15 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the preliminary numbers released on gate, attendance and salaries of the main eventers.  Notably, attendance numbers are strong and so is Anderson Silva’s reported purse.

Dana White reported that UFC 162 at the MGM Grand Garden has sold 12,400 tickets for a gate of $4.26 million.  These numbers already eclipsed UFC 160 held at the same venue in which it received 12,380 tickets for $2.94 million.

White also reported payouts for main eventers Anderson Silva, Chris Weidman, Charles Oliveira and Frankie Edgar.  Silva will receive $600,000 to show and a $200,000 win bonus. Weidman will earn $24,000 to show and $24,000 to win.  Frankie Edgar will be making $120,000 to show and $120,000 to win.  Oliveira will be making $21,000 to win and $21,000 to show.

Payout Perspective:

Although there were rumors that ticket sales were sluggish, it appears that this may not be the case.  The ticket price points may be more for this event based on comparing gates.  As for the payouts, the Silva-Weidman salaries underscores the fight pay disparity.  Yet, Silva is at the top of the roster and Weidman is still working his way up so while on paper it looks bad, Silva’s pay is one of the highest in the UFC.

Looks like Kennedy just got even more MARKETABLE with a Gracie on his resume. Roger is the best fighting Gracie since Rickson. I know the corporate apologists and the members of whites cult of personality were hoping he would lose so he could be swept under the rug. Nope! I would say he could headline a fuel card now, or at least get a big MW fight. Munoz would be a good fight for him.

Roger is a BJJ phenemenon too. He actually subbed Jacare in the ADCC. That makes Kennedys win even more outstanding for having stymied his submission attempts.

Roger’s MMA game sucks. I was actually disappointed in Kennedy. He should have been able to kill Roger on the feet and he didn’t do anything. The only think significant I saw him down was the strikes he landed when roger give up his back. He got out wrestled in the first round. Which was a big surprise given his wrestling back ground.

BUt he won and a win is a win. But Marketable? LMAO!! To who? How many PPV’s or seats has Stann ever sold? Don’t get me wrong. It is always good to have decent respectable guys associated with the sport. But it isn’t always able to be monetized.

Are you surprised that some bjj guys can wrestle too? You saw how a bjj guy in maia outwrestled sonnen the wrestler. Give kennedy his credit for surviving on the ground with of one of the elite bjj guys in the world and coming out with a definitive w. You are biased through and through bs.

    1) You’d think they could easily market Kennedy. A green beret special forces (reserves currently) who saw repeated action in Iraq and Afghanistan and won the army’s combative championship 3 times? That’s several times what Stann’s accomplishment are. That’s Snake Eyes the G.I.Joe action figure come to life. Plus handsome and articulate, should be a no-brainer
    2) Did you notice he’s the only fighter that didn’t get a post-fight interview on the main card?

According to Meltzer, Kennedy was chastised by White at the fighter meeting pre-fight. Kennedy’s fight was the least exciting of all on the main card but I do see the subtle snub.

I do think Kennedy is marketable IF he can’t start performing better. His fights are dull and he hasn’t really beat anyone not to mention his loss to Rockhold. Your accomplishments on paper mean nothing if people just can’t like you. Let’s face it. Even the MMA community isn’t behind Tim. Let alone mainstream fans.

But judging by the easy fights he is getting and the relatively high pay. That tells me they are planning on marketing him and giving him a push.

Well he has cracked the top ten accordingnj to one popular mma site. I won’t mention competotors but he is there if you look. He is due for a big fight I would how.. Unless the ufc wants tonpunish him with an anonymous fighter on the undercard. His perfmance against gracie is also a testament to how good gracie is. Roger is definitely the best fighting gracie since rickson.

I agree Roger is the best fighting Gracie. But that isn’t saying much. A Gracie hasn’t been worth a damn in MMA in over 10 years. I think Renzo, Ryan, and Rickson were better fighters. But their lack of takedowns and size would never beat Roger head to head. But they could atleast throw a punch which Roger looks like he has never done before in his life.

BTW, Kennedy still shouldn’t have struggled with him. Roger has 1996 conditioning and should have been blown away on the feet. It shows imo Kennedy doesn’t have much power and isn’t as good as he needs to be to hand in the position he is currently in.

If he is in the position he is then he is good enough. You can’t make it this far without boat loads of talent. Of course dude has the look and pedigree. Maybe him being a but rebellious will help him getover more with fans. I happen to like anyone who questions the rotten system that much more. Although I remember talk of kennedys time being limited due to his special forces love so I hope we get as much of snakeeyes as we can before he disappears again.

Btw:maia and jacare made it a long way on just bjj plus takedowns without looking like they knew how to throw a punch. rani yayah got by for awhile and still does by just putting his head down and rushing in haha. Elite him is enough slot of the time. Opps, almost forgot shields.

And every single one of them hit a wall when they fight the top guys. Shields hasn’t done to well In the UFC. His few wins were close, pathetic, or controversial. Maia got beat out of 185 and will again run into a wall at 170. Jacare might make some noise. But it is due to his athletic ability and his working on his striking. Even then we have already seen him have trouble with some of the guys and he hasn’t even fought the top ones yet. The same Yahya that was beat out of 155 in the UFC and had to find a weak, new, smaller division?

Besides all those guys MMA guy is light years above Roger Gracies.
