Lawsuit reveals Alvarez’s potential compensation

January 9, 2013 by Jason Cruz 9 Comments

MMA Junkie reports on the lawsuit filed by Bellator against Eddie Alvarez.  The lawsuit includes an exhibit which outlines the terms negotiated with the UFC.

The Bellator matching clause remains the center of the lawsuit and the exhibit which reflects the potential compensation and perks for Alvarez in the UFC is of interest:

– Alvarez would get an eight fight deal starting with a $70K/$70K (show/win bonus) and he would receive a $5,000 bump with each win until $210,000 which would be guaranteed.
– He would receive a $250,000 signing bonus.
– He would receive $1 for each PPV buy between 200K and 400K; $2 for each buy between 400K and 600K and $2.50 per buy over 600K.
– Alvarez would also be guaranteed a fight on Fox and opportunities to guest commentate on UFC branded events.

Bellator’s offer included a $250,000 signing bonus and a $125,000 to participate on Spike TV events.

Payout Perspective:

Its always interesting to see compensation of fighters despite what Dana White says.  The inclusion of appearances in the contract outside of the ring is good thinking for Alvarez’s personal brand.  The main argument will be the value of the contracts and whether Bellator matched the offer made by the UFC.

That’s certainly not a match per se (dure to the PPV vs a flat bonus), but I could see them arguing that it is effectively enough in court to win out in the end. Too bad because I’d really like to see how Alvarez would perform against the UFC’s elite.

Side note: any way we might be able to get a little community moderation going here? I used to really enjoy the comments on this site, but the environment has really seemed to devolve into petty bickering and (I hate to use this tired term) “trolling” statements. If that’s not possible then I understand, but figured it was worth it to ask, because it’s kind of sad to see what the MMAPayout comments section has become.

I agree with this. I try to take comments serious even if i know they are trolling. I think we know who i am talkig about. I should ignore him but sometimes i cant help myself lol. But it becomes a real problem when people come here to only put down the news, sport and peoples opinion trying to discuss the topic and not provide any real opinion on the subject.

Brain Smasher: Well… thing is… (at least according to my opionion) that here are basically two… well, I wouldn’t say trolls, but… maybe individuals, who come into the discussion with pre-formed and onesided opinion on every matter (which is a pretty cardinal sin in my book). And one of them is you.

You can definitely speak and argue better than your counterpart, but that doesn’t change the substance that you are quite similar.

Machiel Van: I think it’s not that bad. Since discussions under articles are a pretty scarcely commented ones (few comments is norm), its not that much crap to overelook or ignore. One or two messages from Simpson and Brain Smasher and that’s all. And sometimes even with some interesting info or POV. It’s not like you must drabble yourself through tens of troll comments to found one interesting. Ratio is the opposite, which is quite good I think. 🙂

I never claimed to not be opinionated. But i do come here and discuss the issue at hand. I may not change my stance easily but neither does anyone else. However i do respect people opinion. But i do not come to this site and bash MMA and root for its downfall. Isnt this a section for comments on the article or for discussion about the article? Thats what i do. I make comments purtainig to the article and discussion with anyone who disagrees. In fact i rarely reply to other comments. I reply about the article and people take offense with my opinion(ironic i am called close minded lol). Lets be honest there isnt anyone in here who is saying “Ok you are right and i am wrong”. Everyone is set in their ways. Some just give up on arguing their side easier lol. To say i am the same as Sampson who only posts negative comments or false information to create arguements tells me you dont pay much attention to what i post on here. I never troll on here and Sampson does exclusoively and is never serious about any discussion and i am serious about all of them which is what we are here to do. Now im sure im not going to change your mind as you have a preformed opinion of me(breaking your own rule) 😉

Sampson and Brain Smasher are the most interesting commenters on the site. The comments on the site without those two are boring, not “enjoyable”. Their fighting also sometimes brings out new data and new info that is just as interesting or more interesting than the story being commented on.

Machiel Van sounds like a little bitch.

I agree Random Dude. Seriously? People complaining about some jabbing back and forth?

I thought this was a combat site. Nerds abound!
