Payouts and updated ratings for UFC on Fox 5

December 12, 2012 by Jason Cruz

MMA Mania reports updated ratings for Saturday’s UFC on Fox 5 which reveals it doing much better than originally reported.  In addition, payouts for Saturday have been released with Shogun Rua and B.J. Penn leading the list.

The final numbers show that the UFC pulled 4.4 million viewers with the main event receiving an average of 5.7 million viewers.  This is up from the overnight rating of 3.41 million.  The final rating for UFC on Fox 5 was a 2.5 according to the Wrestling Observer.

MMA Junkie reports the salaries for Saturday:

Benson Henderson: $78,000 (includes $39,000 win bonus)
def. Nate Diaz: $50,000

Alexander Gustafsson: $60,000 (includes $30,000 win bonus)
def. Mauricio Rua: $175,000

Rory MacDonald: $42,000 (includes $21,000 win bonus)
def. B.J. Penn: $150,000

Matt Brown: $54,000 (includes $27,000 win bonus)
def. Mike Swick: $48,000

Yves Edwards: $32,000 (includes $16,000 win bonus)
def. Jeremy Stephens: $24,000

Raphael Assuncao: $38,000 (includes $19,000 win bonus)
def. Mike Easton: $14,000

Ramsey Nijem: $20,000 (includes $10,000 win bonus)
def. Joe Proctor: $8,000

Daron Cruickshank: $16,000 (includes $8,000 win bonus)
def. Henry Martinez: $8,000

Abel Trujillo: $12,000 (includes $6,000 win bonus)
def. Marcus LeVesseur: $8,000

Dennis Siver: $62,000 (includes $31,000 win bonus)
def. Nam Phan: $10,000

Scott Jorgensen: $41,000 (includes $20,500 win bonus)
def. John Albert: $10,000

Payout Perspective:

The big rating for Saturday is great for the UFC.  The job it has to do now is translate the big number into PPV buys.  Can the UFC market Henderson, MacDonald and Gustaffson and groom them to become PPV stars?

As for the salaries, it’s interesting to note that Benson Henderson had a base of $39,000 while Nate Diaz made $50,000 with a likely $50,000 win bonus.  Also, B.J. Penn made three times more than Rory MacDonald and Shogun Rua almost made three times more than Alexander Gustaffson.

Cain and Abel only got 6k? Guess it’s not enough to be a Blackzillian? only 16 for Yves? Yves has done alot for the ufc and should be getting double easy. I can tell Dana and the UFC are a “what have you done for me lately” kind of bunch. And it’s not like he hasn’t fought for the last couple of years or anything. Then you have the Champ making less than the challenger? And people wonder why anyone would ever bring up the idea of a union. Just wait until Chuck Liddell ,Franklin, and Couture start to resemble Ali; then what?

There was a recent Gary Goodrige article where he says that he doesnt remember things so well these days. It’s really not worth it. The horrors of football related head trauma is coming to light. MMA will follow.

Wait, somehow the fact that Rory only made 21 to show escaped my eyes until now. Wow. Just wow.

Gotta feel sorry for Cruickshank. Got screwed out of 60k (or 5k, or whatever it is after Obama and friends take all the taxes to give to their friends and family) because Dana thought he’d do something nice for Yves.

x2 for Cruickshank. He knocked the shit outta Martinez. He is a young, motivated, and super talented guy. Come on Dana, keep these kids motivated by rewarding hard work. Lets have Cruickshank fight Edwards for that KO bonus…then double it when Cruickshank leaves with his head….

It sounds like JUICE is really Sampson Simpson.

What has Yves done for the UFC? LOL come on! He is lucky to be back in the UFC. He is a good fighter but hasnt done anything for the UFC. He doesnt sell PPVs or tickets, He was never champ and he isnt a Legend. There is guys you can play that card with but Yves isnt one of them.

Also franklin, Chuck, Couture will never be like Ali. You are showing you are truely a noob. Nealry all of them are older than when Ali showed signs of parkinson’s. Ali showed signs of it when he was 37 years old and was officially diagnosed 5 years later. None of the fighters you have mentioned have taken much punishment in their career and none of them show any signs of any problems and 2 of them are well past 40. In fact there isnt any MMA fighters that i have ever seen who have ever had problems that boxers face. Goodrich hasnt take many punches to the head what ever his problem is likely isnt from fighting. There was doctors a while back disputing what he claimed he had. SO who knows what is really wrong with him.

Also, you need to grow up. You act like a child. Yes Rory got paid 21/21. That is what he as an adult agreed to work for. Its how the adult world works. One day you will find out for yourself. Just because he has found a little success doesnt mean his old contract disappears. He likely is on an older contract and could be about to renegotiate anytime now. Who knows and who cares. He has total control over wether he fights for that or not. So save your pitty party for someone else. This was the first real win he has ever had and you already think he is worth 6 figures. lol

You are weird. Why are you defending lousy working conditions as exhibited by their contracts?

Lousy work conditions? I guess i got confirmation on wether you are a moron or not. Since when is making well over 6 figures a year for a fighter who has yet to beat anyone of note in their prime. Lousy work conditions? So im weird because i know the definition of “contract” and expect fighters to be adults and make the correct decisions they have to live with. On eof these days you will be a big boy and understand this. There are choices in life that decide the path your life will take. IF you are a moron and make a bad choice. That is no ones fauly but your own. Rory got the contract he and his management negotiated/wanted. Only you are on here bitching about it. Only a loser signs a bad deal then cries about it after the fact.

Rich Franklin signed a deal some years back then give him lots of fights(job security) with low pay. If he lost he lock in that pay for a long time. IF he started winning he would be under paid. He made the decision to play it safe and gaurntee himself more paydays. So he went on a big win streak and won the belt but was on a low contract. He honored his contract til the end like a man. What he did wasnt stupid. He made sure if he lost he wasnt sent packing. He signed a contract that feed his family and give him lots of fights to prove himself rather than his fate ride on a 3 fight deal. It worked out in the end because he turned it into many years into the UFC and cashed in on sponsors. Something he couldnt do if not in the UFC. Rory MacDonald is doing just fine without your pitty!
