Nike sponsorship next for JDS?

November 2, 2012 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

MMA Fighting reports that Heavyweight Champ Junior dos Santos is close to signing a sponsorship deal with Nike.  The deal could mean JDS will sport the swoosh in time for his big fight with Cain Velasquez in December.

Terms of the deal are unknown at this point for JDS but if the deal goes through it would make him the third UFC athlete represented by the Beaverton, Oregon company.

Will we see “Cigano Knows” t-shirts soon?

Payout Perspective:

JDS’s contract with his previous sponsor, Pretorian, has lapsed which allows the possibility for Nike to sign him to a sponsorship deal.  The signing of dos Santos would mean that Nike will have secured three of the UFC’s champions.  JDS would join Jon Jones and Anderson Silva as the only Nike-sponsored athletes on the UFC roster.  The bigger picture could mean that Nike is making a commitment to the sport of MMA and is signing main event stars to ensure its level of visibility for the brand.
