UFC on Fox 4: Attendance, gate and bonuses

August 4, 2012 by Jason Cruz 3 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the attendance, gate and fight bonuses for tonight’s UFC on Fox 4 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

16,080 fans were in attendance for a gate of $1.1 million. Saturday night’s event outdrew the past two UFC events at Staples Center.

In addition, MMA Junkie had the bonuses for the night. All fighters received $50,000 each.

Fight of the Night: Joe Lauzon v. Jamie Varner
Submission of the Night: Joe Lauzon
KO of the Night: Mike Swick

Lauzon received $100,000 in bonuses for his FOTN and Sub of the Night.

Payout Perspective:

While the card may have lacked star power, for the UFC to spin the event as a Light Heavyweight quasi-tournament worked. Lyoto Machida looked impressive against Ryan Bader and Brandon Vera showed up and put up a fight against Shogun Rua. Of course, the only problem is that each of the four fighters competing were thoroughly dominated by Jon Jones. Certainly, Machida, the next challenger to Bones, did well in Round 1 against Jones last December, but he was put to sleep by Jones in Round 2.

As for the numbers, the attendance is a positive considering the card did not have a big name. But, each of the fights on Fox were exciting and ended in a knockout or submission. While the ratings (we anticipate) may not reflect it, UFC on Fox 4 was a good event for the company.

While the attendance is good a paid gate of 1.1 mm for over 16,000 attendees feels about 25 per cent of what they usually do so you would have to assume they gave most of the seats away so fox could have a full house on tv..

    Ratings tanked HARD once again.

Less than 2.5 million viewers on network TV. EMBARRASSING.

Chavez-Lee did similar ratings on premium network, HBO.

Not even 2.5 million viewers. It peaked at 2.3..in the end it will probably be more like 2.15…..fox cannot be happy with those numbers…and the Olympics which are older and 55 per cent female are not much of an excuse..

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.

Many years ago, I made a joke on twitter about Chiesa. It was reported that he was drunk in the octagon at a show and had to be escorted out or something.

I tweeted: “Classic Mike.”

That was it. No tagging him. That was it. It was just a joke 🤷‍♂️.

Anyway, years later I was
