The Pro Wrestling Post: WWE touts Tout, Rock’s ex-wife sued

July 14, 2012 by Jason Cruz 5 Comments

Welcome to another edition of The Pro Wrestling Post.  This week we look at the WWE’s investment into a new form of social media and is The Rock in trouble?

WWE purchases stake in Social Network Company

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the WWE will incorporate social networking site Tout into its web presence and updated television broadcasts starting with the 1,000th episode of Raw. Tout is a social network application that allows users to cut 15 second status updates for others to see. The company will use Tout for Q&As with WWE Superstars as well as television programming and in-arena screening. The WWE acquired an ownership interest in Tout as the social media company completed a $13.4 million series B financing.

Payout Take: How many social media apps do we need? How many can we handle? Tout seems like a great way to engage with others in short snippets through videos like a cross between YouTube and Twitter. Tout gives fans a chance to get their 15 seconds of fame. As for the monetary investment by the WWE, we shall see if Tout becomes the next big social media craze. If so, the WWE will reap the benefit.

Rock accused of benefiting from fraud scheme

The Wall Street Journal reports that former WWE Superstar and current movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is accused of being a co-conspirator in a business fraud scheme in a lawsuit filed in Miami. The lawsuit accuses The Rock’s ex-wife, Dany Garcia-Johnson, of bilking a South Florida family of nearly $2 million. The family believed that they were making safe, low risk investments out of 2 investment companies owned by Garcia-Johnson. Both companies are now in bankruptcy. Fortunately for The Rock, he’s not a defendant in the lawsuit although it states he “benefited financially” from the fraud scheme.

Payout Take: An unfortunate story for the family that lost the money. Fortunate for The Rock it looks like he was not a part of the allegations but for the fact he did have a stake in the businesses.

!’ve been watching pro wrestling since I was 15 years old with the likes on Don Eagle, Bruno Samartino, Bobo Brazil, Vern Gagne etc. and the present wrestlers. I still enjoy it now as I did then. I am now 77, so by my way of counting, that’s about 60 years.

Didn’t know anything about the Rock and his wife’s lawsuit, so I have no opinion.

Right wing grift is so hilariously easy. Just write a very weird and creepy fantasy story you know your paper won’t publish, then make a public show of resigning because of it, and you’ll instantly have a job offer from Clay Travis in your inbox
