GSP stars in Google commercial

July 13, 2012 by Jason Cruz 1 Comment

While Georges St. Pierre is rehabbing for a return to the octagon, he’s finding other ways to make money.  GSP stars in this commercial for the Google’s Nexus 7.

In the commercial, GSP stars as Dr. Paul (no idea why).  As he opens up the tablet PC, he does his best Jean Claude Van Damme as he fends off three ninjas.

;

You may also note that GSP is sporting Under Armour shoes.  So, we may assume that he is continuing with that sponsor as well.

Payout Perspective:

In the past, we’ve detailed the marketability of GSP.  The commercial is a sign that UFC stars can do more than star as MMA fighters in commercials.  Certainly, GSP’s acting is limited but it seems that he was willing to have fun with it.  Can other MMA stars eventually breakthrough to mainstream commercials?  We’ve seen (note past tense) Jon Jones in Bud Light commercials and Anderson Silva is a mainstream endorser in Brazil but will there be other UFC fighters able to follow? It seems like that this Dr. Paul character may be a recurring character for marketing purposes so we might see other GSP commercials coming in the future.

    Cool: It’s also got music by the Danish band Ravonettes in it. 😛

Dana White and the UFC are struggling to sell out UFC 328 despite a stacked card, with ticket prices starting around $350 likely playing a role.

That said, it’s not just the UFC—even MVP events with $70 tickets have had trouble filling arenas, suggesting a broader trend.
