Anderson Silva in pace car at NASCAR event this Sunday

November 8, 2011 by Jason Cruz 2 Comments

Anderson Silva will serve as the honorary pace car driver at the Phoenix International Raceway on Nov. 13 for the Kobalt Tools 500. The race takes place just one day removed from the UFC’s debut on Fox.

Via UFC.com:

“I’ve been a NASCAR fan for a long time and it’s an honor to be part of the upcoming event in Phoenix,” Silva said. “I have much respect for these guys and they are undoubtedly some of the toughest athletes in the world. I can’t wait to get in the pace car in Phoenix.”

Silva will be available to the NASCAR media on Sunday as well.

Payout Perspective:

I am not sure how long Anderson Silva has been a NASCAR fan but this crossover promotion with another one of Fox’s sport properties will certainly benefit the UFC’s exposure. Appearances like this is another perk of the UFC-Fox relationship. Could we see Silva potentially add a NASCAR sponsor to his blue chip portfolio of sponsors? For Silva’s personal brand, it shows a willingness to reach out to an audience that may have some knowledge of the UFC but do not know its participants. It will definitely be interesting to see how he does in fielding questions on Sunday.

People who do martial arts will laugh and tell me it’s fake. But then I ask them why they do martial arts? 😉

I should point out that according to those at TKO that the ESPN/MVPW boxing deal is a revenue sharing agreement similar to the original AEW/Turner deal in 2019 and not a full paying media rights deal which Top Rank had and wasn't renewed.
