Lesnar appearance on Jimmy Fallon

March 29, 2011 by Jason Cruz 3 Comments

Brock Lesnar made an appearance on the Jimmy Fallon Show on NBC last night to promote his autobiography and The Ultimate Fighter 13 premiering this Wednesday. Unlike his previous promotion for his book, Lesnar was clean shaven, affable and played along with Jimmy Fallon.

Lesnar even participated in a “mini-skit” where he reverses a Fallon move and “chokes” Fallon out going to commercial. Obviously, Fallon is/was a wrestling fan and was able to work well with Lesnar.

Here is a video of the appearance:

Payout Perspective:

An impressive performance by Lesnar who looked much more media friendly. He was able to get out a brief synopsis of his autobiography as well as promote TUF. This Brock Lesnar can help the UFC crossover into mainstream awareness.

So, which late night performance did you like better. Brock Lesnar or Jon Jones?

Both did really well. If i had to pick which was better i would say Brock. Simply because he was able to have more control and go into more detail and touch on more subjects. He wasnt really on to sell TUF but he sold it very well and surprisingly was given time to do so. Jay is the consummate professional and never gives up much control so Jones was just touching on Jay’s topics. Both come off very well and the only real difference was really the host of the show. Fallen is more laid back and less experienced so Brock has more room to promote.

Maybe its the beard, but I just saw the clean-shaven Brock on Sportscenter and once again, he did real well. He was personable and played along with the host. Its performances like this that make selling MMA easier.

Perhaps he has an evil twin? 🙂

Both did awesome, it’s tough to compare.

Lesnar’s was a more seasoned veteran Rock-style plug appearance where he hits all his promo notes, but I think Jones did more for the sport in the mainstream just by virtue of being on Leno and coming across real charming to a particularly non-MMA demographic.

Probably a lot of people were surprised with the contrast between the nice dude in the chair and the UFC clip and that’s gotta change a few opinions.

Anyway, great to see positive mainstream media appearances by MMA dudes in general.
