UFC 2009 Undisputed Reaches “Platinum Hits” Status

February 2, 2010 by Kelsey Philpott 1 Comment

THQ and the UFC have announced that UFC 2009 Undisputed, which was the initial collaboration effort between the two companies that debuted last May on both the Xbox and PS3 platforms, has reached the “Platinum Hits” and “Greatest Hits” sales milestones with over 3.5 million copies moved.

UFC® 2009 UNDISPUTED™ REACHES “PLATINUM HITS”AND “GREATEST HITS” SALES MILESTONES IN NORTH AMERICA

Debut Videogame Based on Ultimate Fighting Championship® Now Available at Reduced Price Point for Xbox 360® Video Game and Entertainment System from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 Computer Entertainment System

AGOURA HILLS, Calif. – February 2, 2010 – THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI) and Zuffa, LLC today announced that UFC® 2009 Undisputed™, the critically and commercially acclaimed debut videogame based on the Ultimate Fighting Championship®, has achieved “Platinum Hits” status in North America for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, as well as joined Sony’s “Greatest Hits” collection in North America for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. Having shipped more than 3.5 million units worldwide to date, both versions of the videogame originally launched on May 19, 2009 and are now available for the suggested retail price of $29.99.

“Reaching ‘Platinum Hits’ and ‘Greatest Hits’ status is an honor that speaks to the strength of our software and the power of the UFC brand,” said Vice President of Global Brand Management Brian Coleman. “With a reduced price point, more players can now step into the Octagon™ and take part in the ultimate virtual UFC experience.”

“We are excited that so many fans around the world have helped us achieve these impressive milestones in our debut year,” said UFC President Dana White. “UFC 2009 Undisputed opened the door for us to further share the UFC brand with videogame and fight fans around the world, and we cannot wait to return this spring with the release of UFC Undisputed 2010 on May 25, 2010.”

Payout Perspective:

UFC 2009 Undisputed deserves a great deal of credit for the record-breaking year that the UFC enjoyed in 2009. The number of units it moved helped to increase awareness and interest in the real product, which drove some of the biggest PPV numbers the organization had even seen.

The game’s price point has dropped to a suggested $29.95, but the follow-up edition of the game is expected to be released on May 25th to coincide with UFC 114 and the UFC Expo on Memorial Day Weekend.

I think I’m the only person who doesn’t own the game and i have a PS 3. I guess I’m holding out for 2010 or EA MMA depending on which one gets the better reviews. I can remember a time where people didn’t impulse buy, I guess I’m still living those times.

@Josh_HokitUFC You’re gonna cry you were cancelled by the left for “free speech”. And then you’ll post 200 times a day on Twitter until fox and friends invites you on to “tell your story”. And after that you’ll run for congress and your campaign will be centered on white grievance.

This is

Real question. Was this announced or is there an intern somewhere that is taking note of ever fighter’s follow and unfollow?

"Ian Garry is lying about me... I'm not sure why he made up a lie [about me filming him without permission]."
