MMA in Wisconsin Almost Ready

January 25, 2010 by Kelsey Philpott Leave a Comment

Paul Fladten of WiCombatSports reports that MMA’s regulation in Wisconsin depends only on the signature of the state’s governor Jim Doyle.

Only one signature stands in the way of Wisconsin becoming the 43rd state to regulate the sport of mixed martial arts; with yet another nearly unanimous vote by the Senate on Thursday, the autograph of Governor Jim Doyle remains the final piece of the puzzle.

On Wednesday, the State Assembly voted unanimously, 96-0, in favor of the MMA regulations. While normally the final vote from the assembly would have pushed the bill onto Governor Doyle’s desk, the group had one amendment to the bill which needed to be approved by the Senate.

Payout Perspective:

Yet another nearly added to the list: nearly 43 and counting! Wisconsin is perhaps most well-known in MMA circles as the home of Duke Roufus’ fight team based out of Milwaukee. Not only does he train notable UFC talents like Alan Belcher and Pat Barry, but he also run fight promotions across various states in the past. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the UFC in Milwaukee with a Fight Night in the next few years (then again, with all these markets opening up, the UFC and other promotions are going to have a ton of options).
