TUF 10, Episode 5: 2.2HH rating

October 15, 2009 by Kelsey Philpott 6 Comments

MMAPayout.com has learned that last night’s The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights earned a 2.2 household rating for an average viewership of 2.8 million. Episode five also drew a 3.3 ni M-18-34, and 2.9 in M18-49.

Payout Perspective:

TUF 10 has yet to dip below the 2.0 HH average rating, which is remarkable considering that prior to this season it had only achieved above the 2.0 level on less than a handful of occassions.

Here’s a look at the ratings thus far:

TUF 10   Overall M18-34 M18-49
  Episode 1 2.9 5.3 4.3
  Episode 2 2.2 4.2 3.2
  Episode 3 3.7 6.9 5.4
  Episode 4 2.2 3.8 2.4
  Episode 5 2.2 3.3 2.9

The ratings are great for both TUF and the UFC, but the long-term question still lingers, can the UFC capitalize on these ratings and convert the tremendous viewershp into PPV buys?

I wonder how long they will keep up the EXTREMELY stupid “WILL KIMBO COME BACK???” teases.

My guess is straight through the season’s penultimate episode, whenever there’s an opportunity for that kind of tease.

Well if Kimbo ever comes back on the show. You cant really call it a tease. It seems to me that they wouldnt tease the viewer unless he does in fact make it back on the show. Keeping the viewer following along until the episode he comes back. That makes sense. Teasing the viewer for some cheap ratings could blow up in their face down the road if the they ever use the previous mentioned tactic and noone believes them and tunes out. The boy who cried wolf.

I guess we will wait and see. However the rumored Kimbo vs Houston fight confirms Kimbo dont make it to the finals even if he does get another fight.

I have absolutely nothing solid to base this on, but the impression I’ve gotten from people who would know is that Kimbo does not come back.

Again, this is my impression, I could have been reading too much into certain things.

I have to agree. Kimbo does not come back. What’s really interesting is that there are 1 to 1.5 million extra viewers out there this year that are only watching to get a glimpse of Kimbo. That’s some pretty powerful drawing power. I suspect next season they try to get Tito back on the show to coach to try to keep the ratings up. My opinion is that we will see the ratings start to fall back to normal levels before the show is over and another spike for the last 2 episodes. I haven’t watched the show since Season 3 – and only watched the one episode this year with Kimbo fighting so I guess I’m a pawn, but I won’t spend any more time on the show going forward.
