Frank Shamrock Added to EA MMA

September 17, 2009 by Kelsey Philpott Leave a Comment

Today, EA MMA officially announced that Frank Shamrock is will join the growing list of playable fighters for its videogame to be released sometime next year.

Legendary mixed martial arts fighter, Frank Shamrock, has joined the already impressive and ever-growing fighter roster for EA SPORTS MMA. Shamrock was the first UFC Middleweight champion, a 5-time undefeated UFC Champion and Strikeforce Middleweight Champion. He currently fights for Strikeforce, is a commentator for CBS / Showtime, a trainer and an author.

Confirmed fighters in EA SPORTS MMA include: Fedor Emelianenko, Randy Couture, Frank Shamrock, Renato Sobral, Gegard Mousasi, Jay Hieron, Mo Lawal and Jason Miller.

Payout Perspective:

The success of EA MMA will largely depend upon the ability of Electronic Arts, and EA Sports specifically, to leverage their experience, distribution channels, and brand name.

However, adding names like Couture, Shamrock, Miller, and Emelianenko will help the legitimacy of the game in the eyes of the consumer – only reinforcing the point that EA is serious, with or without the UFC.

I suspect that we’re growing quite close to an initial set of press releases talking about the game itself. Stay tuned.
