Dana White Ends YouTube Vlogs

August 11, 2009 by Kelsey Philpott Leave a Comment

Dana White announced on Tuesday that the UFC would be pulling the plug on the popular UFC video blogs that have appeared on Youtube, and subsequently removed all blog-related content from their Youtube channel.

Dana’s vlogs proved to be an extremely effective way to use today’s social media and reach the MMA demo at relatively low cost. It stands to reason that if Dana and the UFC didn’t pull the vlog after the Loretta Hunt incident, they certainly aren’t pulling it now without a very good reason. I suspect that they’re gearing up for something that is going to target the same audience, with similar content but on a larger scale.

Fighters Only has an interesting take on the situation: rumouring that the UFC is in talks to produce a behind-the-scene series with HBO. It’s also quite likely that all of the networks currently interested in the UFC will be keen to create corollary content of this nature; it’s that human interest, backstage look that can generate attention simply because it puts a face and a story behind all the glitz and glamour of fight night.
