“Hostile Aerial Threat” issued in Riyadh two days before Canelo fight

October 29, 2026 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The threat of an attack in the city of Riyadh is real and the country of Saudi Arabia issued a “hostile aerial threat” two days before Canelo Alvarez is to fight Christian Mbilli.

The treat indicates that the “City of Riyadh is under a hostile aerial threat. Please remain calm, stay indoors or in a safe place away from windows and doors, and follow the instruction of Civil Defense.”

However, hours later the warning was lifted. A report indicated that the Houthis had fired two missiles which were intercepted by the Saudi defenses.

Notably, the Saudi Arabian government suddenly changed the venue for WWE’s Crown Jewel on Saturday, November 7th. It will be held in the same venue as Alvarez-Mbilli. Perhaps the venue has better security. While its clear that people living in Saudi Arabia are asked to go about their daily lives, these big events seem irresponsible at a time when there are concerns about aerial strikes. The information about the events and the location of them are readily available to any entity that might want to attack and do harm to a gathering of people.

Speaking up can cost pro surfers. A World Surf League rule warns of expulsion & fines if surfers say anything that casts the league — or the sport — in a negative light. Experts say the policy is problematic. Surfers say it adds to culture of silence.
