On Monday, Scott Coker and the leadership group that will comprise this new venture announced Ki MMA. The promotion will start in the first quarter of 2027 with a tournament.
The format is 32 flyweight fighters in a single-elimination tournaments on 4 continents. The 4 continent winners will be meeting in an event in which the winners of the semifinals will fight again in the same night in the final.
San Jose, Dublin, Budapest, Brazil, Japan, Korea, and Italy or France were announced as target locations.
The details were announced at a press conference in New York City.
The fights will take place in a ring, Coker announced. The ring is a subtle nod to Coker’s quest to “bring martial arts back to MMA.”
Ki, in Japanese, means “spirit, energy or mind.”
Coker was able to raise $60M in capital for the new MMA venture. For the new venture, he brought back some of the old gang from the original Bellator days including matchmaker Rich Chou.
The focus will be on young prospects although Coker indicated that they would have the ability to sign any free agents that might be available.
