This past spring, WWE announced that it would be debuting a membership club with perks, benefits and discounts. The company released its price point for the club.
On Monday, the company unveiled the price for WWE ID. $99 a year or $8.25 per month
There are no specifics on what members will receive. In an email sent to those that filled out information on the prospective clubs “Founding Members” would receive “unique and exclusive” items. There is also a promise of a digital experience for Club WWE and “bonus points” to get a head start on rewards and a special ticket offer for SummerSlam.
While all of this seems a must for diehard WWE fans, it does not provide reasons why to pay $100 a year for it. One might speculate that the membership allows for big fans to take advantage of access the WWE will create for things such as tickets to special events, meet and greets and other things. It also creates another revenue stream for the company. Certainly, this is good for the company but I do not know what the advantage is for the consumer. The increase in tickets and merchandise are already pricing many fans out of WWE. Unless Club WWE offers something tangible such as true discounts and access to WWE stars, then it just seems like another ploy by the company.
