Cena back to do another WWE appearance

May 4, 2026 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

John Cena retired in December from active professional wrestling with the WWE. But, he’s once again back with the company hosting another WWE PLE with this weekend’s Backlash.

Sports Business Journal reveals that Cena’s deal includes a number of appearances. Cena made appearances on both nights of Wrestlemania 42 this past April as he was in the ring to announce the attendance as well as appear with Bianca Bel Air to announce her pregnancy and a spot with Danhausen on Sunday.

Never say never.
@JohnCena retired in December 2025, but his deal with @WWE calls for a number of appearances, including this Sunday's Backlash at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

What will his role be, and the big surprise? Nobody's saying yet.

While Cena has sworn off going back into the ring, never say never in pro wrestling or in combat sports for that matter. Cena’s popularity is at a high right now and WWE has taken advantage of it by having him at Wrestlemania and he will do a second PLE this weekend. Cena has two movies coming out this Summer so its hard not to think that he’ll likely pop up again this summer at Summerslam or another PLE.
