The Ring Magazine announced that the Floyd Mayweather, Jr.-Mike Tyson exhibition fight announced late last year will actually happen. The two sides have agreed to a fight on April 25th in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
We last saw Tyson in a loss to Jake Paul in November 2024. Tyson revealed that he suffered ulcer issues which caused the initial fight to be postponed. He also stated that he had a knee injury.
The 48-year-old Mayweather has had 9 exhibition fights since officially retiring from the sport. Recently Mayweather filed a lawsuit against Showtime and Stephen Espinoza alleging that they had defrauded him out of over $300 million from his figh earnings.
Aside from the announcement of when and where, there have been no other announcements as of yet regarding promotion, length of fight, rounds and size of gloves.
One might speculate that this fight is more of a need by both ex fighters to make some money they need rather than to showcase skills. My feeling is that they are holding this event in the Congo because the country is giving them preferential treatment. While the fight may be a battle of two well-known names from yesteryear, the actual fight will not take on anything resembling a competitive fight.
