CBC reports that there was a neo-Nazi meeting in Vancouver involving several individuals from the MMA/Boxing community in the area.
The meeting was to organize the neo-Nazi movement and connect locals with the international community. The conference featured speakers from several local MMA and boxing gyms in the area.
The article specifically identifies three combat sports figures that teach or own gyms in the community.
Notably, Foundry Combat Sports owner Ron Pearce was at the event. The gym issued a statement which does not deny his involvement;, “participation in the event by any individual was personal, peaceful, and fully compliant with Canadian law.”
In addition, a local boxing coach, Lane Pommer was identified as an individual that attended the meeting. Allegedly, he spoke discussing “Indo-European first principles.” He was a boxing coach at the Westshore Boxing Gym on Vancouver Island. However, it appears that he no longer works there after CBC called the gym.
Payout Perspective:
This expose is another reminder of the unfortunate ties between combat sports and the white supremacy/neo-Nazi movement. According to the article, there was nothing illegal about the meeting. But the fact that this hate exists is unsettling in the sport.
