Boxing Scene reports that boxer Claressa Shields signed a deal making her the highest paid female boxer in the sports history. Shields deal worth at least $8 million for four fights over two years with Dmitriy Salita’s promotion.
Salita told Boxing Scene that the deal includes a $3M signing bonus and could be worth more depending on how well the events sell.
It was the first time that Shields’ had tested free agency. The story indicates she spoke with Most Valuable Promotions and Matchroom Boxing. But, she ended up with the promotional company where she began her career.
The deal includes having Wynn Records co-promote her fights. The record label is where her boyfriend is creative director.
Payout Perspective:
A lucrative deal for Shields who had a short foray into MMA with the PFL but boxing is her strength. Shields signing may get fans more advertised fights for the former Olympian as most of her boxing career has not attracted a greater audience.
