The UFC returns to Perth, Australia this Saturday but according to a local television report, the event is not gaining interest with the arena half sold two days before the event.

The report from 7 News Australia reported the tickets sales had been “poor” and that they were being “discounted.” MMA had been illegal in Western Australia until 2017 when it paved the way for the UFC to hold events in the region. The first UFC event occurred in 2018 with UFC 221. It subsequently held two other PPVs including UFC 284 and UFC 305 in 2024.
Saturday’s fight night event is headlined by a heavyweight matchup between Dominick Reyes and New Zealand’s Carlos Ulberg. Ulberg is one of several fighters from the region which should have brought interest from fans to attend what has become an annual event.
Payout Perspective:
This is the first time I’ve read of a report of negative ticket sales for a UFC event. Whether it is the lack of star power for this Fight Night event or just a general lack of interest, this could be a “one off” problem or a looming issue to come with the UFC. Perth and the UFC have a contractual relationship through at least next year but there seems to be vocal opposition about cagefighting in the region.
