41.4M viewers watched Canelo-Crawford

September 15, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Netflix announced that this Saturday’s fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford drew “over 41 million global viewers” per Deadline. This is based on its metric of average minute audience (AMA).

The report states that the fight drew “about 20.3M” tuned in live + same-day views. With those numbers, it comes as no surprise that it was No. 1 on Netflix in 30 countries including the US, Mexico, UK, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Ireland and the Philippines. It also made the Top 10 in 91 countries.

In comparison, the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight drew 108 million viewers (per AMA) and the Katie Taylor Amanda Serrano undercard drew 74 million. The Taylor-Serrano fight this past July drew 6 million +1 day viewers.

Payout Perspective:

Overall the viewership numbers for the event are great and appease the Netflix theme of purchasing sporting “events.” Its next fight event will be Jake Paul-Gervonta Davis in an exhibition match. With Zuffa Boxing media rights ripe for announcement, could we see Netflix in the mix for it?

Interesting - in the early 2000s, HBO had to defend "de facto" promoter allegations in front of Congress. If DAZN uses licensed promoters to organize the fights, it's hard to call them a "promoter." SRL signed deals with ABC and HBO without having a promoter, so it's been done.
