The UFC visited Baku, Azerbaijan for the very first time. The promotion handed out double bonuses to two fighters for Fight of the Night.
The fight between Nazim Sadykhov and Nikolas Motta were awarded $100K each for their back and forth fight on Saturday. Sadykhov earned the victory via KO/TKO in the second round.
The only other finish on the card was Myktybek Orolbai as he submitted Tofiq Mosayev in the first round. However, Orolbai missed weight and the fight was moved to a catchweight. It is UFC policy that those that miss weight are not rewarded with one of the fight bonuses.
The double bonus is a great boon for Sadykhov and Motta but also speaks to the fact that the fights did not provide another compelling fight or stoppage aside from Orolbai. It is worthy to note that many of the fighters on the roster were from the region which may infer that it is still a region that is building up its professional MMA. Or, the card just didn’t produce.
