Friday night boxing in the heart of New York city’s Times Square offered the opportunity for a great spectacle not to mention three big fights featuring Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney and the return of Ryan Garcia.
However, all of the fights were mediocre at best and Rolly Romero spoiled Garcia’s return to the ring.
Romero knocked down Garcia and muted most of the opportunities for a rather tame Garcia. This brings into question, or at least the momentum, toward a Haney-Garcia rematch.
The spectacle of the event was interesting with the fighters needing to be driven to the location prior to their fight. Notably, the fights started around 6pm local time which likely created a logistical traffic nightmare in Manhattan during rush hour.
With a weekend featuring Garcia, Canelo and Inoue on consecutive days, the Times Square event was interesting but provided little entertainment and questions coming out of the card.
