On Tuesday this week a woman filed a lawsuit against Conor McGregor stemming from an alleged sexual assault that occurred at a Miami Heat basketball game in 2023.
The woman also alleged that the staff and security of the Kaseya Center committed gross negligence. The woman, whose name was not disclosed, claimed that McGregor sexually assaulted her in a bathroom in the arena after Game 4 of the Heat’s NBA Finals series against the Denver Nuggets in June 2023.
McGregor was part of an on-court skit during the game.
An incident report was filed with the city of Miami’s police department on June 11, 2023, 2 days after the incident. Notably, in October 2023, the Florida State Attorney’s Office declined to pursue a criminal case against McGregor.
McGregor’s attorney told ESPN: “After a thorough investigation at the time, the State’s Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue. Almost two years and at least three lawyers later the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case too will be dismissed.”
The lawsuit includes medical treatment costs, compensatory damages and other relief from the Heat and McGregor.
The lawsuit claims that McGregor “intentionally engaged in unlawful sexual contact” without the woman’s “consent or permission.”
Payout Perspective:
There is more to unpack with this lawsuit which also claims that McGregor injured the Heat mascot during the on-court skit. But, less than two months after McGregor was found liable in a civil court in Dublin of sexual assault and ordered to pay $260,000 to Nikita Hand. He also was ordered to pay court costs and attorneys fees of over $1 million. We will see the facts spill out over time, but this could be another example of McGregor’s actions outside of the Octagon taking precedence over his last fight.
