Report: AEW re-signs with WBD

September 18, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

John Ourand of Puck was the first to report that All Elite Wrestling is re-signing with Warner Brother Discovery. The deal should be formally announced sometime in the coming week.

The deal is for three years at $170 million with an option for a fourth. The deal does not report on PPVs. Also, there are rumors that AEW may split its media rights and sign a deal with Fox. A lot of that speculation hinges on a recent trademark filing, “AEW Shockwave.” While that speculation is still boiling, most have confirmed the WBD renewal.

The report indicates that the content will include TBS, TNT and TruTV which is trying to carve out section into sports.

Payout Perspective:

The deal is yet to be finalized but is good for AEW considering it had been in a slump with ratings and attendance in 2025. For those in the know, a three-year window seems short especially if you were to compare it (probably unfair) to the WWE Raw Netflix deal which is $5B over 10-years. I do not know if the 4th year option is a good or bad thing because three years does seem short which means that the company has to drastically improve over the next couple years to be in a position with another renewal.
