The Sports Business Journal reports on Dana White response to the notion that UFC Noche ticket sales are slow. As of fight week, there are tickets remaining despite the anticipated record gate.
Unlike most PPV events in Las Vegas, this one is set to take place at The Sphere and the UFC has pulled out all the stops for this event as White suggests that they have spent over $20 million in production for the event in what should be an aesthetically pleasing visual for fans. But tickets seemed overpriced causing slower than usual ticket sales. Furthermore, across town Canelo Alvarez with be boxing at the T-Mobile Arena which may lead one to believe that there may be one too many events in Vegas this Saturday.
In remarks to SJB, he rebuked the assertion that the event should already be sold out. But White indicated that ticket sales are normal, and he expects a record gate of $21 million.
It is worth noting that when event tickets went on sale this summer, the lowest ticket price was $3,000. Upon looking at Ticketmaster on September 8th, the lowest ticket price was $757 not including the secondary market. Thus, it would seem to be that the tickets were lowered but White stated that the tickets were selling at “a normal rate for any event we put on.”
Payout Perspecitve:
Could the UFC be a victim of its own success? UFC events have sold out prior to the week of the event but this event is getting a little more scrutiny because of where it will be at, The Sphere. Also, this will be the first time that it will be sponsored by Riyadh Season. The event should sell out prior to Saturday but it sold out slower than most of the other big events this season.
