Jon Jones was charged with two misdemeanors related to an incident at his New Mexico home on March 30. Representatives of Drug Free Sport arrived at his house on March 30 to collect a sample as part of the UFC Anti-Doping agency. An alleged incident occurred in which one of the agents stated that Jones “appeared agitated” and took one of the representatives’ phones and started to record them.
Jones denied the details of the incident claiming he was “caught off guard by the unprofessionalism and protocol by one of the testers.”
Jones was charged with assault and interference with communications. The assault charge is a petty misdemeanor while the latter is a misdemeanor.
At a virtual hearing on Wednesday, Jones plead not guilty to both charges. Per MMA Fighting, as conditions for his continued release pending a bench trial, the former UFC champion was ordered by the court to not violate any laws, not to possess any firearms or dangerous weapons, not allowed to possess or consume any alcohol or illegal drugs and has to notify the court if his address changes, stay in contact with his attorney had has to “avoid all contact” with the alleged victims in this case.
If Jones is convicted on both charges he could face less than a year total in jail and fines totaling $1,500.
Payout Perspective:
This case will settle before the bench trial as Jones will likely be able to pay the fine and perhaps do some type of community service. But, the incident once again highlights the problems Jones faces outside of the Octagon. Certainly, there are two versions of the story, but with Jones’ past issues, its hard not to believe the version provided by the drug agents.
