Broken toe the cause of McGregor fight delay

June 21, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Conor McGregor revealed on social media that the reason for pulling out of his fight against Michael Chandler next week was due to a broken pinky toe. The injury, while minor, was cause for the former UFC champion to pull out of his UFC 303 main event fight.

The social media post was seemingly in response to Chael Sonnen’s comments that he was in alcohol rehab. The social media post from McGregor has been taken down.

Conor McGregor reveals he suffered a broken toe, which led to him having to withdraw from 303. Same leg that he broke versus Poirier in 2021. “It needs a few weeks that’s it,” he wrote. https://t.co/RltaqoZHn9 pic.twitter.com/WqU0zl0nze

McGregor indicated in the post that he had fought hurt in the past and didn’t want to do it this time. Despite the grief given by many fighters on twitter, McGregor’s next fight is his most important. He is still a draw but after such a long sabbatical from fighting and even a longer one from winning, he needs to beat Chandler to prove he is still the fighter that people are drawn too. The news of the injury was under wraps (pun intended) by those who knew likely due to the fact McGregor waited for a time to reveal it. We will see how much longer he will be out. Rumors have it that he will be a part of the Sphere show in September.
