Dana White announced that performance bonuses would increase to $300,000 for the special benchmark event, UFC 300. The decision was based on lobbying by Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway to increase the bonuses from $50,000 to $300,000.
The $300,000 bonuses will be the largest in company history (at least, the amount announced to the public). At UFC 100, the company gave out $100,000 bonuses, at UFC 129 (the Toronto card) in 2011 it gave out $129,000 bonuses. At UFC 262, it gave out $75,000 bonuses.
It’s a huge increase for the UFC, but with the astronomical projections for PPV and gate, this seems like a “drop in the bucket” for the company to give out at least $1.2 million in projected bonuses for fighters. The extra bonus money promotes great fights and for the athletes to go for KOs or submissions to end the fight. This probably does away with fighters trying to “point win” a round or “lay and pray” which will mean greater chance of stoppages.
