Lopez-Ortiz draws 451K viewers for Thursday bout

February 15, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Teofimo Lopez’s return to the ring was not inspiring and drew just 451K viewers on Thursday night. Lopez’s victory against Jamaine Ortiz was not fan friendly and drew 0.13 in the A18-49 demo.

The Top Rank event was aired on Thursday as part of Super Bowl LVIII lead-up. But, for the second straight time on a Thursday night the main event was not very good for the viewer. This past November Shakur Stevenson drew a win over Edwin de los Santos but it was widely panned for the lack of action.

Obviously, a Thursday prime time telecast on the main ESPN network should garner some viewership. However, it once again failed to gain traction with anyone with an interest in boxing. ESPN should continue to push these events but Thursday may not be the best night for it.
